I have run the 800m countless times. The first time I ran it I had no idea what to do. At the start of the race find someone to pace off. No matter what happens, don't let the get too far in front of you. If you have energy after the first lap, pick up the pace and sprint the last 150-200m. It is normal to feel nautious during the race and it is common for 800m runners to throw up.
Good Luck!

The 800 is my favorite race. It's a lot of fun. Whatever you do, don't backdown. You'll seriosuly look like an idiot. When you start the race, don't bult out like lighting (unless you know you can keep a steady pace). Run the first lap at a comfortable pace. Your split time should be around 1:08 - 1:17 (depends on how fast you can run) The on your second lap, pick up the pace a lot. When you get to the last 200 meters of the race - SPRINT!! Run all the way through the finishing line, don't slow up at all untill you pass it. Good luck!! :)

I am also doing 800m for sports day at my school ( and 200, long jump, etc ) 800 is considered the easiest spring in the race. Try running behind someone so that they take the wind for you or put your head down- I am currently training at 2000m

P.s What school do you come from?

Don't panic! 800m is only twice round the track. Just try and go for a run around where you live at least once a week and then you will generally feel more supple and fit.

You should never run a race without trying out the distance first.Do a few practice runs to see which pace you are comfortable with.
One thing puzzles me..why did your teacher choose you to run the 800m if you've never run it before?

Do waht i always do, sprint the first 100m so you are ina good position so you arent sprinting at the end just to make up and make your position of last look respectable, 3/4 pace the next 100m along the straight, jog the next lap then sprint it in

Just find out all the events that they're going to do and get a list of those specific events and bring up Microsoft Word and type them down and when you're on a specific event, just ask you're students if they want to be in that event.

My daughter runs this distance occasionally, and she says pace yourself. Don't go out too fast, but try to keep up with the front to middle runners. Stay with them if you can until the last 100m, then turn up your speed and sprint past them.
It's important to practice beforehand though.

I am rubbish at running but i have done races like this before so here is what you do:
pace yourself at begining(run a slow to medium pace)
speed up gradually
sprint at the end really push yourself!
good luck!
p.s. if someone laughs at you ask them why they didn't volunteer!
