At one time, homosexual men didn't use any kind of protection because duh, they couldn't have babies. But in this day and age, I would think that a woman has as much as a chance of getting aids from a man as a man does, and a man has as much chance as getting aids from a woman that a man does from a man. Don't forget needles and blood transfusions!

More susceptible is a poor choice of words... Susceptibility connotes that the individual has less defense against STDs. Not true. The immune defense system is virtually the same for all of us; it is the life style practiced which puts homosexual men at greater risk.

LOL... However, your name suggests that you're at even greater risk than them.

Wrong word...by using the word susceptible, you imply that being homosexual means you are innately, biologically at higher risk of catching a disease. This is FALSE. Now, certain behaviors in the gay community may place more gay men at a higher risk for catching STD's, such as having more sex partners, but gay men are no more susceptible to STDs than straight men. If you are talking about the physical mechanism of intercourse that gay men participate in, yes, anal sex is a more dangerous mode of STD transmission than vaginal sex assuming it's UNPROTECTED...but many gay men do no practice anal sex..mutual masturbation works well for a lot of couples...and even if they do, if they use protection properly, their chances of a catching an STD are pretty close to zero...identical to that of their straight counterparts.

There is still a higher AIDS rate among homosexual men. Red Cross still does not accept blood from this group, which is controversial but expedient for them during testing. If you read any gay magazines or publications, you will see a large number of pharmaceutical ads for AIDS medication. There has also been higher rates of contraction in NYC and LA than there has been in almost 20 years. This is due to the combination of meth and cragslist, where intoxicated men are able to hook up much quicker and easier than conventional bars. This may sound bias, but follow up on what I am saying and see for yourself.

You don't "get" aids... You get HIV a virus which leads the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. Which also make you susceptible to many other things, like certain kinds of cancers, fungal infection. Blindness, insanity, pneumonia......

Anyone who practices unsafe sex habits are at risk of getting some kind of STDs....

Only way to avoid it 100% is to abstane is a monogomous marriage.

Whoever says things like this should be flogged in the public square Quasimodo style. Sexual preference has nothing to do with the likelihood of getting an STD. Sexual abstinence does. Saying otherwise is like discounting the fact that even a whore can be raped.

your orientation is not what is relevant. certain activities are higher risk than others. anytime a man goes through the back door there will be some tearing, which puts the "homeowner" at risk. when a man goes in the "front door" there may be some tearing. however the "visitor" is at less risk than the "homeowner".

i dont think there is still a risk of getting it from blood transfusions. i'm sure there is a risk of getting it from needle sharing but that doesnt even represent one-fifth of new HIV cases.

because men and men have anal sex your butt hole is more skeptical to any kind of std there is a soft tissue membrane in you butt hole that makes it that way. not to say that men and women can't pass it on to each other but that is why man having sex with men are more likely minus the condoms. If you watch the herpes commercial about how the medicine helps reduce the spreading of herpes only in heterosexual couples.

Well, of course STDs don't care what gender you are. If one partner has syphilis, gonorrhea, AIDS or something else, then they will pass it on without protection (and even that isn't a 100% guarentee).
