No, your friend does not need to lose weight, and I would not advise it. Your friend's body mass index, or BMI is 18.3. Underweight is considered anyone with a BMI of less than 18.5. The BMI is a system developed by the government to determine what the healthy weight levels are for people of various heights. For a person that is 5'5", the minimum suggested healthy weight is 114. So if anything, your friend needs to add four pounds to be considered a healthy weight. Thanks.

God no she doesn't need to lose any at all!!! That's perfect if not underweight....she may even need to put ON a little bit of it!! I'm 5'4" & would loooooove to be that again....or 130 at the least because normal weight (BMI calculator) for my height should be between 120 & 145. If I were you I'd have a talk with her because if she insists she's fat at that weight then that's a major sign of an eating disorder. My sister had a friend w/ the same problem & she was diagnosed with anorexia. Be careful & watch out for your friend.

she very well could be carrying around some excess body fat. the total bodyweight has absolutely no correlation with the body fat percentage. many people that are light on the scale have an above average body fat % because they have very little muscle mass especially if the have poor eating habits and are basically sedentary

ok...well you just added in the fact that she is 12. that pretty much explains everything. have her turn off the tv and the problem is solved

Do you really have to ask that question? You look at her and you can't tell if she is FAT or not or if she needs to lose weight? Are you kidding? She needs to GAIN 10-15 lbs. at LEAST.

I would be happy to be her size. I'm 5 53/4" and roughly 150-160lbs. Tell her to shut up and be happy. If it's really a problem, maybe she has a body disorder. Get her help.

Heck, no. She sounds like she might have an eating disorder. Seriously, keep a close eye on her.
