If you haven't seen him check out the video on U Tube where he is trying out for the British version of American Idol, I am nor an Opera fan but I was totally blown away by his performance

Getting into an Opera Company is far more difficult then you think. I know MANY singers who are absolutely impeccable singers who have yet to sing professionally with one. And yes, they sound just a good as he does. What happens is many opera companies are looking for a certain look or sometimes they look for singers with a huge resume. When you don't have that, it can be hard to break into, no matter how stunning a singer is. Sometimes it is who you know, what you know, and how you got there. Sometimes one's voice type just doesn't call for the opera. It is so complicated. After years of work, I am finally getting REAL roles with an opera company. And you wouldn't believe how many singers I know who have just as much skill, but are still overlooked. It stinks doesn't it? Welcome to the world of opera!

Paul is simply amazing and he shows that ordinary people can have big dreams if they believe in themselves and peservere. By being in the show, he already gets a big audience. I hope Simon Cowell will be able to able to help pave the way for him to be a professional singer.

well.. like others said.. its complicated and there are many factors for getting roles in an opera company..
however- musical performance does not guarantee work on a constant basis and if you have a family to support.. unless you are well established, it isnt worth it. but he was AMAZING.

No kidding! I wanted to ask WHY wasn't he already famous?? I guess it's because he lacks the confidence needed to put himself OUT there, to go to auditions and get an agent. Still, it seems SOMEONE should have heard him sing and snapped him up before this!
I bet he'll be signed SOON... The man is AMAZING.
