No way. Prayer is the most productive activity you can engage in. God is real and He listens to every word, thought and motive of every prayer ever uttered or expressed. God has a perfect plan for you and those you pray for. His timing is also perfect so don't expect immediate results all the time but definitely expect results even if they aren't exactly what you asked for or expected. I find that as I wait on God to answer I see that He has done a much better thing than what I requested. Pray always and listen for a response. Don't give up.

An interesting analogy. Of course there is a flaw in it. One does not rock in a rocking chair in an attempt to "get somewhere". But in a sense praying can be like rocking in a chair. It brings comfort to the soul, it is contemplation. It often makes the one doing it feel better. It helps sort out your thinking.
In these respects, it is similar. But not the same.

Or you could pray while rocking in a rocking chair.
If your prayers are empty cries of selfish desires, you won't get anywhere, that is true.
If your prayers are in line with God's will (as Jesus' prayers were), then you will get results.
In other words, stop praying that God will buy you a Mercedes Benz, and start praying for all the people who are walking bare foot.
God bless you.

That is so false. Prayer changes things. Prayer changes lives. I have seen it work in my life. Sometimes by itself, sometimes through the knowlege God gave to a doctor, sometimes through people, sometimes supernaturally without any explaination - miracles that come about and you go Hmmmmmmmmmmm that was weird. Prayer is direct contact with the creator of the universe. When you tap into that POWER the possibilities are endless. So, when you are rocking, try praying - you may be surprised at the outcome.

All I know is every time I am at my wits end and have no where else to turn, I turn to prayer. But, prayer works only if you turn it over ENTIRELY to God. You have to ask it and basically forget it. No worrying, no second guessing. Faith and trust. I have had so many answered that it is awesome!!! Some may choose to call it fate or luck, but I call it prayer. It works. Try it! Thanks, and have a Super Day!!

you are quite right..
one of the writers of the new testiment said as much as you did concerning prayer and faith -
"let him ask in faith nothing wavering. for he who wavers is like a ship in the sea that is tossed, let not that one think that he shall receive anything of the Lord"
prayer has alot to do with attitude. if one prays with a hopeless or doubtful, anxious attitude then it might not have much effect... but if one prays with hope and trust - then the effect of a God-affirmative, heart-desired answer is greater.

go google "the chemical and psyhological effects of praying and ceremony." Hell... read anything by Jung. To say it does nothing for the one praying is an uneducated assumption at best.

If Jesus is not your Savior, it is , because the only prayer , that He hears from an unbeliever , is the prayer of repentance, that opens the door to Him.
