why do people site this as giving the bible credibility for being a book to live by? i recommend anyone who cites this fact to take a look at number two on the list: quotations from chairman mao. this is a book more or less glorifying mao tse tung, and yet it is number two on the best sellers of all time. what's even more amazing about this book is it was published in 1966. the bible's first publication was around1455. total sales for mao's book is near 1billion while the bible is just over 6billion. this means if you took the average sales per year for both of these books, mao's book outsold the bible by nearly twice as much. guess we should all become communists, eh comrades?

I cite it on being 100% accurate and God-breathed.....

I could care less if it only sold 100 copies over the years.....doesn't make it any less reliable

Scripture contains God's instructions on how to live....and how to be reconciled to God through Jesus Christ

Who gives this as evidence for its "credibility for being a book to live by?" That makes no sense. It supports that the fact that the Bible has had a profound influence on a great portion of those who have lived (as does Guttenburg's printing and the fact that for most of history, those that did own a book usually owned just one, which was the Bible). But it doesn't necessarily add credibility as the word of God.

I don't think anyone uses this argument in the way you that imply.

How many people lived in China during Mao's time? How many people were FORCED to buy Mao's book, just because they lived in China.

Your logic doesn't make sense on this one. If you could prove to me that all of Mao's books were bought VOLUNTARILY I would give you credit for your logical conclusion. But considering his dictatorial regime-- I don't think you can ever prove that one.

I would not suggest that the number of books sold means anything. I would also not suggest that the number of believers in a certain religion renders that religion true.

The truth is. The bible is either the inspired word of God or it is not. It is up to each person to decide for themselves which camp they will be in.

However, a person's disbelief in the bible, in God, in Jesus, in heaven, and in hell will not negate that all of them are true.

Both books are often bought not so much to read as to comply with someone else's expectations that you have a copy and can recognize enough quotes to be Politically Correct.

Now that I think of it, they actually have a good bit in common, don't they?

The Bible is a compilation of fictional tall tales made up for personal gain. It is the best selling book of all time...in the FICTION section!

If it were really a guide to live by, it would be given away, not sold.
