My dog just started limping two days ago and still is. He is about 5 years old...

Is he okay?

Maybe I should rephrase that...

I know that he is not OKAY, I just wanted to see if he would have and serious medical problems because of his age. I don't expect athritis in a 5 year old dog.

Here are some addition facts...

Type: Mastiff/Black lab
Weight: 80 lb
Pain: The pain is caused by something wrong with the joint (wrist for us) on his front right leg/paw

It may be the beginning of arthritis or may have hip/elbow dysplaysia. You should take the dog to your vet to have him checked. It may be something serious or may be nothing at all.

what kind of dog is it? is it the front or back leg that he is limping on. Large dogs are known to have hip displasia. Just like people he may have just sprained it or pulled a muscle. try to limit his excercise so he doesnt put to much strain on it. It can also be a arthritis. The best bet is take him to your vet.

i own a bull mastiff being his front leg we can rule out hip displasia. large dogs life expectancy isnt as long therefor he very well could have arthritis. He is 5 years of age so that rules out any sort of congenital growth defect being he has been fully matured for roughly 3 years. Mastiffs hold most of thier wieght on the front legs being a bull breed so he very well has a sprain or pulled muscle. Im not finished with veterinary school so i can not diagnose the problem even if i had him in front of me. Take him to your vet and he may want xrays taken. good luck and lemme know how it goes.

Uh, no. He's not okay. Dogs don't limp for two days when they're healthy. If it was something minor, he would have worked his way through it by now.

He may have a bone break or fracture; he may have a pulled muscle or tendon; he may have something lodged in his paw; he may have been bitten by something; if he had access to the street, he may have been hit by a car; he may have bruised the pads of his feet...

The only way you'll know for sure is to get your dog to a vet... Don't delay. The longer you wait, the more serious his injury may become.

it's always a good idea to take your dog to the vet. my dog was about 9 years old when she got arthritis. she had been limping for a while..she actually had to get surgery. also, my neighbors dog was about 6 when he started limping. He was taken to the vet and the doctors said he had a slipped disc causing him to limp. unfortunately they could'nt save him. its better to be safe than sorry. i dont wanna scare you or anything. but i think your dog will be just fine =) he might have just stepped on something or fell. good luck with your baby :)

I say take him to a vet just to be safe as it could actually be lime disease...I know it sounds strange, but my rottweiller started limping two days ago and we thought it was just a sprain.

Then it got the point the whole leg just dragged like it was paralyzed. The vet checked him out and did a test and yup, it was lime disease. If we hadn't caught it early and without aggressive antibiotics, he could've been permanently paralyzed or even died.

Since it has been two days I think it is time for him to see the vet. He could have stepped on something or maybe sprained or broke a bone? I don't know but the vet should check him out.

could be an injury, could be arthritis, could be degenerative joint disease.

Take your dog to the vet and have them do an xray.
