check how it was laid . go into the corners and edges. whats the underlay like? youD hate to ruin good underlay if it was professionally laid down. unless you are not putting more carpet down. it's all a learning thing as each of us have different experiences with different professionals. just look and you will know.

THE BEST WAY I DID MINE WAS TAKE A CARPET KNIFE CUT IN STRIPES AND PULL IT UP STARTING FROM ONE OF THE CONNER'S AND ROLL UP IN PCS. THEN AFTER YOU GET ALL THE PCS OUT IF YOUR ARE NOT GOING TO RE LAY CARPET TAKE A TOOL TO GET THE BOARS STATED UP ON THEE EDGED AND PULL ALL OF IT UP MAKING SURE TO GET ALL NAILS AND STAPLES HAVE PLAINLY OF GOOD MU SIS FRIENDS IF TELL HELP AND GOOD COLD WATER AND LAUGHTER AND TIME IT DEPENDS IF YOU ARE GOING TO RELAY WHAT THE PADDING WILL ALSO MAY NEED TO BE CHANGED IN THE SAME WAY OR SOMETIMES ITS NOT AS DIRTY AND CAN BE RE USED BUT IF YOU ARE GOING WITH SOMETHING LIKE HARDWOOD GLUE TYPE SANPDOWN TILE ECT. THE FLOOR WILL HAVE TO BE PREPARED IN MANY DIFFERENT WAYS AND ARE YOU HAVING THAT DONE BY A PROFESSIONAL ARE YOURSELF. DEBBIE C

I would pull it up from the corner a cut it into three feet pieces and roll those pieces up and take them outside the be thrown away with your weekly garbage pickup. the tac strips can be pulled up with a crowbar (if you are not replacing the existing carpet)

Get a carpet knife blade for your utility knife, it will hook the carpet and cut it easily.
Make 3' wide cuts from wall to wall, roll them up for easy handling and disposal, Viola!
