From personal experience my best advice is choose your battles. Wearing a green shirt and purple pants really won't hurt anybody. If they want to wear their winter boots in the middle of the summer let'em. If you teach kids at an early age that they can make decisions they will grow up knowing you trust them and are more likely to make better decisions because they've had the practice. Always to try to ignore the "negative nellies" in the world. There will always be someone telling you your wrong no matter how you raise your child. Do what feels right to you and be confident about your decisions. And lastly let kids be kids. They need to explore, get dirty and learn by making mistakes. I'm not sure if this is stuff you'd find in baby books, but it's what's worked for me.

i think you can find anything in baby books, there are so many, but if you are like me and hate to read a gazillion books. the thing i think that surprised me the most is how tired i was, im still tired and she is 3. they say when your baby sleeps you sleep, yeah right!!!!!!
another thing is, time flies, sometimes at the time it doesn't feel like it, but before you know it they are talking your ear off. have fun and enjoy your baby, they are too cute and very entertaining. and always make sure you have you time, you can go insane if you don't. and if your married have date night at least once a month, more if possible.

Well, don't let your toddler sick their hand down their diaper for any reason, I found that out the hard way. And if they get really quiet when their off on their own, they're probably up to no good...better go and check. And last but not least, if she/he is picking their nose, make sure they're not putting it any place other than where it's supposed to be. I caught my 26 month old trying to feed her 8 month old sister her boogers!!!!

take the help when it is offered !!!

Some new moms feel if they take the help they are not being the best mom.

But taking the help makes you a better mom.

let someone deal with everything else, enjoy the time with your baby .

Always keep a good stock of batteries, for the swing, mobile, bouncer, etc. I typically buy these as shower gifts.
