I hate nonsense about the "military industrial complex" blah blah blah.

Everytime we've downgraded our military forces during peacetime, after WWI for example right before WWII, when our miltary was training using broomsticks for machine guns and flour bags for grenades because they didn't have the equipment, and using outdated field equipment, armor, tanks, and what not, we ALWAYS were screwed when we HAD to fight.

Before the end of WWII we were very isolationist, and not including war time, had a very small standing military and budget. Which always left us weakened and handicapped when we needed them most.

After WWII we had taken our place at the TOP of the world's powers, by helping liberate europe and the pacific, by building an incredibly strong economy, and being the only nuclear power.

After that, we were ALWAYS asked to help others, with few exceptions, so we needed to maintain a strong military. (Do you really think it was OUR idea to go to vietnam? No. That was the french's mess, read some history).

As for that argument about it not being our right to police the world...... whoever thinks that can shove it right back up their butt cuz that's all that statement is, crap. On the same line of thinking the Nice police officer should NOT be able to give me a speeding ticket because I didn't choose him.

No. That's not how it works, and anyone who knows anything about the origin of modern police forces would know that. Police CHOOSE to do it because they have the testicular fortitude, also known as BALLS, to do what is RIGHT.

Isolationist idiots are the ones who allowed Hitler to take over most of europe.

"Oh, i'm to scared to stand up for what's right, let him kill all the jews"

I hate idiots who think like that. Who are too afraid to do what is right. Who are afraid to put their self in the presence of danger. Those are the type of people who would GLADLY let a father beat his children, his wife, because they feel NO RIGHT OR DESIRE to prevent such an injustice.

Disgusting.

Anyways, point: Our budget is fine. There could be some cutbacks on some stupid spending, such as on the VTOL aircraft Congress is MAKING the DoD and Pentagon develop, against their wishes, but, most of that spending is just.

Pay, benefits and dual use equipment, such as satellites, take up a good percentage of that. The average trooper carries about $14,00(armor, weapon, clothes and other gear) worth of gear into the battlefield.

The average Russian soldier and Chinese soldier might carry the same gear a U.S. soldier in WWII carried (about $200 worth). They are also not fed as well. I read that a Russian sailor's rations was a can of beans a day. I also read that the Russian military has trouble even paying its utility bills and doesn't even have targetting computers on their ships.

there are many things that are wrong with one........

it shows the stupid expenses that the us gov. pay to fund the military. everyone other country in the world minds its own business while the us is worried about building a missle base in europe...........

i'm starting to not trust the us mil. after those horrible pictures at abu, it made me want to throw up........

if you think that chart is bad, i wonder what the us thinks about these two charts.......
1.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_number_of_active_troops
2.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_size_of_armed_forces

It shows how much the other countries involved in Iraq dont care about the stability of Iraq.... Theyre not willing to help stabilize the country as much as the US is....

It's been that way for nearly 100 years.

Conservatives criticize Liberals for their "cradle-to-grave" domestic policy (and rightly so). They don't think it's government's job to protect us in all aspects of our lives. Yet, they have no problem with government "protecting" the rest of the world from theirselves and spending HALF our tax money to do it! We don't need to police the world, that's not our business.

We can protect ourselves very well with $100 Billion instead of $500 Billion. Anyone who says otherwise is speaking on behalf of the Military Industrial Complex who needs our tax money to keep themselves rich and powerful.
