my g/f wants to know if light road riding on a hybrid bike (nothing extreme) can compare to a very brisk walk (powerwalking) as far as burning calories. i would think a brisk walk would burn more because cycling on rd. doesnt have much resistance imo. thx.

yea i guess it all depends, she rides on pretty flat surfaces and then you also have the option of selecting easier gears on a bike as well as coasting.

Wouldn't that depend on how long you are doing it and how you are doing it?

You can bike up hill or down hill. You can walk fast or slow.

In general a fast walk with exaggerated arm swings will burn more calories. In fact, you can burn more calories with that fast walk then you can running.

But it really depends on the technique.

Walking ,of course, but you can bike much longer than you could walk. If time is a constraint, walk, if you have all day, bike.

I suppose it all depends on the terrain. Biking uphill will burn more calories than walking downhill.

Too many variables to answer. Go by heart rate. If you don't have a monitor, a finger on the carotid and a stop watch will do. Bigger number wins.
