IF we did nothing or made a token gesture, the same kinds of attacks would most definitely have occurred in the US. Look at the previous administrations and the responses (or lack therof) and you can draw your own conclusions. The attacks on the USS Cole in 2000 - The explosions at two U.S. Embassies in Tanzania and in Kenya in 1998 - The US servicemen shot down in US helicopters and killed in Somalia in 1993 - The three bombings that targeted US troops in Yemen in 1992 - Pan Am 103, Lockerbie Bombing in 1988 - the Beirut Embassy bombing in 1983 -the bombing of Marine Corps Barracks in Beirut in in 1983 -TWA flight 847 skyjacking in1985 - The Achille Lauro Hijacking
in 1985.......The Islamofacists have been emboldening themselves, committing bigger and more horrific atrocities when they go unchecked. The ostrich-like, head in the sand mentality will only make things worse with Al Quaida and other Jihadists. The American Political Left has been playing right into their hands, making their jobs easier and the United States much more subceptable to their attacks. The US needs to stand up to them and for herself!

The question is not if we had taken no action, but what action should have been taken. After 9/11, America had almost universal international support. Afghanistan was appropriate. Iraq was not, especially since Afghanistan was not finished and the al-Qa'ida leaders were not captured. We didn't finish what we started before starting something that we shouldn't have. Even our European partners who support us in Iraq do not consider Iraq part of the Global War on Terror.
We made bad choices. Yes, I said "We" because we elected the government we have, and President Bush did not make all of the bad choices alone. Congress acquiesced in OCT 2002, and has been perpetually in the process since.
Sorry, folks, I'm not a Bush fan, but fair is fair. Over 70 percent of the American public supported the Iraq War. Now, over 70 percent oppose it. That is a true flip-flop.
If we had done nothing? We would have laid ourselves open to further attacks. Nevertheless, not all of our responses involved sending troops.

We already had 4 terrorist attacks prior to that under Bill Clinton's do-nothing administration. The first attack on the world trade center in `93, The Oklahoma City bombing, The 96 Olympics bombing, and the attack on the USS Cole. If we did nothing a fifth time they'd be sure to try for a sixth. We're fighting the war there now so that we don't have to be fighting it here.

Well no action was taken when the WTC was bombed in 93 and we got 9-11 so what do you think? Pick another city and any one of them could have become the next target.

Over where?
If you mean Afghanistan, then there likely would have been more attacks.
If you mean Iraq, then probably nothing, because Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Even W has said so.

There would be more 9/11 type terrorist attacks
because the USA would then be viewed as very
weak in the eyes of the different terrorist organizations!!

More attacks and more problems. Iraq would still be a problem, and the whole we had a no fly zone crap, yeah its didn't mean crap to them then why would 6 years matter. That whole region is a big hate group against USA, and no Bush didn't cause it, we caused it for just being us.

Not sure as my crystal ball is a bit cloudy, but I would think we would have had repeated attacks around the country. Large and small scale

If we had left Iraq alone Saddam would have self destructed. We already had two NO FLY zones. Afghanistan needed to be made into a glass mirror from the heat of Nuclear missiles
Then troops there would have been redundant
