I agree with you. People do it because they want to avoid problems. Now I can see it happening if they're raped, or if you or the baby have chances or getting hurt or dieing. Otherwise, its just sickening.

Generally I personally am against abortion. But I'm a very realistic person. I have an acception. If you are raped then you should have an abortion because it is not your fault. A person should not have to go on with life with that reminder if they are already traumatized.
However, if they have sex and get pregnant on their own I believe if you play you should pay. How about the baby's right. You have to take responsibilities for your own actions. You shouldn't have the rights to have an abortion because just bc you and your husband do not want another child. You are not being a responsible adult...should have thought about it beforehand.
When you have an abortion the baby is already formed in the woman's body...and there is heartbeat. The baby is alive. Imagine your mother having a doctor suck you out with vacuum and you never get a chance to live. That's my opinion. Hope this helped.

That you are a guy, you will never understand - sorry, but you simply can't. No matter how things may "look" to you, you are only looking in at one of the most heartrending decisions a woman would ever have to make. That you list things like #5 is just a joke. Obviously you think having an abortion is a walk in the park, like what, "oh, I think I'll schedule a manicure, and then have that abortion" - ?. Sweet mother- you have no idea what in the hell you're talking about. None whatsoever.
And to the girls on here who are more than happy to pass judgment, when you have never had to make such a decision - grow up. You have no idea what you are talking about.
I don't care what the woman's beliefs are, I have never talked to any woman who has gone through this experience and gone away lightly. It can be emotionally devastating.
Birth control is not 100% effective, by any means. My son came at such an "impossible" moment, that my ob-gyn insisted on carrying 2 delivery dates on my chart, he was so certain I was wrong
(I wasn't).
That any of you can so blithely make statements that abortion is used as a casual after-pill are just plain ignorant-so read this and think! I have counseled too many women dealing with too much life destroying shame and guilt, when the decision they made was necessary - for them. That it was necessary is all you need to know, and respect.

Planned Parenthood doesn't just do abortions. They want to prevent them from having to happen by giving out birth control. Pro-choice means having a choice, and not having to make that choice by being responsible when you can be - and having a choice about what to do if you weren't given a choice about sex.
1) Very few happily married women end up pregnant and don't want to be. That's because they use birth control.
2) Many, many more.
3) Lots. Most of them were not fully educated about sex and many were raped.
4) Same as above.
5) Imagine taking 9 months and being sick every day. Not to mention all the other complications. That has the potential to destroy anyone's life.
6) There are always idiots.
7) They use birth control.
I think if guys were able to get raped and get pregnant, we wouldn't have all these problems.

I think the only reason abortions should be allowed is if its a good reason they have to do it, its a person's live because the baby will kill them, they have all the right to do it, and if a women is raped and she couldn't prevent it than they should have this choice. Yes I agree that sometimes abortions are used in the wrong way. But I guess we live in a free country, and have the right to do what we choice, and why should it be the goverments or other people choice if a person can do something or not! People probably did it way back, but there wasn't the tv to tell everyone its happenning.

I think ideally everyone would try and prevent an unwanted pregnancy. Even when they don't lead to abortions, they can lead to abusive and neglectful parenting of the unwanted child.
I myself am a gay mom, and a liberal, and I personally would not get an abortion unless the baby was so deformed it would not survive even for a minute in the outside world. And, that is really because of selfish reasons- I wouldn't want to start to love the baby and go through 9 months to have to feel that sort of trauma of losing my child.
Women who are raped could take the morning after pill, if it is available to them- which to me is not the same as a late trimester abortion. You have so much time to figure things out- even before the egg & sperm meet that there really aren't too many reasons to have an abortion, besides medical reasons for the safety of the mother or one of the fetus in a multiples birth...
I am all for sex education in schools. I think prevention is key in most aspects of life. The girls I knew in high school & college who got abortions were actually the good religious girls (all but one), because they felt there was a huge stigma against getting pregnant outside of marriage and they thought their families would disown them.

I think the best thing we can do in this country to reduce the need for abortion is birth control... Personally I think abortion is really wrong but I would never vote for someone who would want to make it illegal.. Just like alot of people think cigarette smoking is wrong, but no one wants to make that completely illegal.
An (ex) friend of mine, who was in my sex education class were they taught us how to use condoms, decided one day to have unprotected sex and then wondered why she became pregnant... Then she had an abortion where she took a pill. After the abortion, she told so many people in my school (even people she didn't know well) about it and she talked and talked like it didn't bother her at all and the baby was just a little thing... I was soo appalled by her irresponsibility that I stopped being friends with her, and I don't talk to her anymore, I would feel differently if she used a condom though... But I'm sure there are other cases were people (men have to be responsible too) use abortion as if its an easy simple thing, but the truth is that it is not.

It seems to me that you have a rather narrow vision about this. Let's take a look at #6. Don't you think men bare as much responsibility as women in preventing unwanted pregnancies. If the man were acting responsibly in #6 he would go 'wait....I'm pretty drunk and this may not actually be consensual'....why is it always the woman in these situations. As for #7, HOW many MARRIED men have had affairs and not used protection, knocked some woman up and then insisted that she get an abortion so his wife didn't find out. Quite a little sexist list you've got going on. Maybe if insurance companies would pay for contraceptives across the board, women wouldn't have to worry about it so much. Maybe if they made women's contraceptives OTC like men's then you'd see a decrease in pregnancies.........But since we still don't have the same rights as you it looks like some of us will have to make a very hard choice.

You're criticising the wrong people.
Most pro-choice people support things that would reduce the number of abortions by reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies.
The people who oppose all the things that would reduce unwanted pregnancy are mostly the people who claim to be against abortion.
If all those people pushed for complete and accurate sex education, and easy availability of birth control (as they have in civilized countries), there would be a LOT fewer unwanted pregnancies, and therefore a lot few abortions.
But they aren't really interested in there not being abortions so much as in trying to control women's bodies because they think women and sex are evil.
Uh, when you ask how many helpless citims are raped, are you suggesting that rape victims were at fault?
What a disgusting idea. You could look up rape statistics easily enough.
But I guess you would say all those women and girls deserved to be brutally attacked and harmed.
You could also find statistics on who is having abortions (such as age and reason break-downs).
If you WERE interested in knowing the answers to those questions, you could probably find out.
But apparently you AREN'T interested in knowing, probably for the same reason you think victims of violent crime are responsible for the crimes committed against them.

it could be for medical necessity, but i bet that's less than 5% of all abortions. most are poor planning and / or selfishness. Abortion is unfortunately viewed as a convenient way to fix a mistake. Poor family structure, lack of education, lack of self control, immaturity, selfishness... so many reasons as to why. I suggest increased adoptions and offer some of that money back to the girl giving up the baby. Not so much as to make it a job and become a baby factory, but enough to go through with the pregnancy and give that life a chance. It's also too acceptable to have sex at a young age in this country. Parents aren't doing a good enough job building up the self esteem of their kids and educating them. So many couples spend tens of thousands on out of country adoptions because they biologically cannot have children, and it's a shame that we're terminating so many lives in this country at the same time.
I'm not hatin on those that favor choice of abortion, I just respectfully disagree with it and wish for better family values.

The #1 category MAY choose an abortion because they don't have the money to care for a child.
If you think that # 3&7 are preventable, then pray tell, what do you suggest? No suggestion? hmmmm.... Maybe abortion is necessary (especially for the # 2 category)
Look, no one is FOR abortion. I'm not standing around saying "Gee, I wish there were more abortions." but the issue isn't a simple black and white thing. Every single case is different. You can't just lump them all into SEVEN categories. These women are human. They make mistakes and sometimes circumstances beyond their control get hoisted upon them.
