find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

You do not have to go on a "diet". The best way to lose weight is actually to start with eating what you normally eat, but lowering the portion sizes of the bad things and increasing the portion sizes of the vegetables.

You do not need to starve in order to lose weight.

For snacks, try replacing the snacks you enjoy with similar healthier substitutes. If you like potato chips, try replacing them with apple chips, which are still crunchy and are quite tasty, but have much less fat. If you like french fries, try not frying them, but baking the fries instead.

The other important factor is exercise. Exercise does not need to be boring. It can be fun, too.

Think of something active that you enjoy doing and do it each day for at least 20 minutes per day.

Basketball, swimming, bike riding, walking, jogging, volleyball, dancing, and even gymnastics are all excellent ways to exercise.

If you are going somewhere in close distance to your house, try walking instead of taking your car.

If you have kids or know someone who does, take the kids to the park and run around with them.

Losing weight does not have to be something you hate. Make it fun.

this is going to sound like grandma's old home remedy type thing but it does work. instead of three meals a day eat six small meals aday. such as for breakfast a bowl of cereal (1 bowl), or 2 eggs, or 1 english muffin, etc for lunch 1 non-fat yogurt or two apples, in between breakfast sugar=free jello, or a banana or pear, etc. for afternoon snack, yogurt or a piece of fruit for for dinner1/2 of what you normally eat
after dinner and before bedtime a poece of fruit or jello or yogurt or a muffin. on this diet i have gone from 280 pounds to 242 pounds in a month. different people lose weight at different rates depending on their own systems.
