Hello friends, I am going to rephrase my previous question. Can a puppy that is 11 months old already have a litter? If so, was she bred at 6 or 7 months old? Is that possible? I am looking to adopt a according to the owners an 11 month old dog, she has no records because they do all the shots themselves, they said she had her first litter and would be going into heat again in about 4 months, I wouldnt want to breed her, im just tryin to find out if she really is that young.

Yes. Females can go into heat any time from 6 months old. And, when you consider that the gestation period for a dog is only 62 days,. So, if you just deduct 2 months from the day she had the puppies, then you know when she had her first heat. Most of my dogs, and they are Shih Tzus, have gone into their first heat when they were about 8 months old. So, if they got pregnant at that time (and this is only hypothetical because I don't let that happen) then she would have her litter when she is 10 months old.

It's possible and would mean she was bred on her first heat.
The age of the dog on the first heat varies by breed size and lineage, but can be between 6-8 months old. Dogs are pregnant for about 63 days before whelping.
Having a litter that early in like is very hard on a young female. If you do decide to adopt her, please have her spayed.

Yes she could be that young. Dogs have their first heat cycle at 6-9 months so she could have gotten pregnant at 9 month of age and had a litter because they are only pregnant for 63 days or about 2 months. That would make her 11 months old with a litter of pups. It's not good for the dog but it can happen.

Wow!
Yes, it certainly is possible. But, what kind of people would breed a 6 or 7 month old puppy? Puppies that old need to have their nutrients to build up their own bones, not a litter's.

Legally these people are supposed to keep track of their vaccines. They are supposed to record all dates and vaccine numbers. If they can't supply that to you, assume you will be revaccinating the dog.
If I were you, I would tell the people that I will be taking the dog to my vet before finalizing any sale. These people sound like puppymill people or abusers.
What you need to look at, check the mouth, thoroughly. An 11 month old will have adult teeth but they should be pretty white with little to no tarter.
Check her feet, are her nails clipped, clean between the toes? Check in her ears, you should see nice peachy colored skin, no gunk or built up dirt. Check for bugs, too.

Please have your vet check the dog before you complete the sale. If these people care so little about their animals to treat them like this then you can be sure they don't care about selling a sick or diseased dog. Have your vet run a heartworm test as well, they are pretty cheap. This dog should have been on heartgard monthly.

Also, find out if the state you live in has laws for breeders to guarantee their animals they sell for a certain length of time, and make sure you get a dated, signed receipt for the dog when you do buy her if it works out.

I normally wouldn't tell people to do so much, but this sounds like a scary situation and you would not be adopting this dog, you would be rescuing her.

After having a litter of pups,a dog doesn't come back into season until around 5 to 6 months after a litter is born. The gestation period of carrying pups last 58 to 63 days. This pup would have been around 7 to 8 months old when she had her first heat and became pregnant.

It is possible. but very unhealthy for the dog. I had a cat who had her first litter when she was 8 months old. All the kittens died, and she had a hard time afterward. I would take the dog to a vet when you adopt her to make sure she has had pups and ,if so, if there is any damage.

Poor thing!
Sadly, a b*tch can have puppies that young.
My guess is she went into season at 6 or 7 months, had her puppies at 8 or 9 months and they placed the poor pups at 6 weeks.
Sad. Sad. Sad.
If you get her, please get her spayed. This poor baby has already gone through enough. Have her see a real vet too.
Hopefully you can give her a good loving home and save her.
Poor thing :(

Dogs can have litters that young. Only a very irresponsible breeder would breed a dog that young. If you get her I would have her spayed first thing.

I know a so called breeder that bred one of her chihuahuas at 6 months and then every heat cycle thereafter and calls herself a reputable breeder........NOT!

Sure it's possible, but it's certainly not adviseable and I woudln't want to buy a dog from a back yard breeder like that.

It's like people, SURE, a 13 year old girl CAN have a baby, but SHOULD she??? Of course not.

yes, it could happen. dogs go into heat any time after 6 mos. PLEASE get her spayed right away as she is at MUCH higher risk for cancer & a pyrometra.

they might have done her shots - who knows if done correctly & they cannot legally do rabies. get this poor dog to the vet immediately as she has had no care up till now.
