No offense intended to any faith. This is only academic.

The major religions/faiths can be grouped as: Abrahamic (Christianity, Islam, Judaism) and Dharmic (Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism).

Christianity/Islam doesn’t recognize idol worship. Dharmic faiths do not make it mandatory, neither prohibit it. They constitute wisdom gained by saints over centuries. There’s no single representative of God as in Abrahamic faiths.

Europeans (mainly Christians) uphold the fact that idolating is sin. Most Europeans are descendants of the Romans who were essentially idolators (Temples/Statues/Images have been found). Does it mean that the Europeans’ ancestors were sinners?

When Muhammad was depicted in cartoon, there were protests; but none of these people protested when the Bamiyan Buddhas were destroyed by the Taliban!

Are Abrahamic faiths actually political movements created by one human being who somehow managed to convince his followers that he was the “Chosen One” – chosen by God?

Sword - Even I respect Prophet Muhammad who fought against the evils of society. However, incidents like 'Bamiyan Budhha' and statements like 'Kill one Kafir and get 70 virgins' prove just the opposite of what you say.

unlabeledone - I agree that pre-dominantly Christian societies today are tolerant; but surely Christianity earlier was not. Galileo's tragic death proves it.

sweetgrl77777 - Although your argument holds much weightage, I would request you not to view Dharmic Religions from the lens of an Abrahamic one.

As a Taoist I am baised towards the Dharmic faiths. They allow for a lot of leeway in what one can believe, and support using one's own judgment; and they advocate kindness, wisdom, and inner peace. They aren't administrative or condemning.

Nina said Jesus is the only way to heaven.
How can you belittle Jesus in this way?
Is Jesus so stupid that he cant see the good in other humans. Well we all know Jesus saw the good in all people from prostitutes to lepers to Jews to Romans. Those who try to praise in the way Nina has are doing a great injustice to him and his teachings.

Sweetgilr77777 ‘i dont have an explanation as to why does brahma need to b worshipped in so many forms , and each form has a distinct personality and purpose’

You have many forms and each form has a distinct personality and purpose.
You are a daughter, a sister, a student, a cousin, a teenager, a best friend, a girlfriend, a person on the internet with even a different name.
You are all these things right now.
You play out a distinct role when you are addressed As a daughter and as girlfriend
Or as any one of the above.

Can you imagine the different roles of God? Can we limit his form to just one? I think not.

someday you will be a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a work colleague, a receptionist, a manager, a business partner, a millionaire perhaps!
These are your potential characteristics.

God is omnipresent omnipotent and omniscient he is everywhere.
Yet as soon as someone sees a God in every living creature that person or that religion is criticized.
You cant bottle up God with one simple description or one form.
He is what we describe Him to be. Why else would he be called a GOD?

Hindus have understood God for what he really is and who is. They accept all Gods no matter how you describe him. That is the nature of God and what better religion then a religion that accepts all Gods as their Gods!

the dharmic religion include worshipping of idols of animals(the cow or the mouse) or of humans - and organs of idols for example the shiv-ling which is a sex organ of the hindu lord shiva.the number of hindu gods as my hindu frnds tell me is atleast in 6 0r 7 digits.the number of gods and why should so many gods be required and absence of an almighty seems to render the dharmic religions imperfect.(it is argued that brahma the almighty is the supreme god - but i dont have an explanation as to why does brahma need to b worshipped in so many forms , and each form has a distinct personality and purpose )
now comming to the abrahamic religions - the almighty lord has been sending down messengers time after time to bring the mankind on the right part . the bible was given to jesus or prophet isa peace be upon him. it is well known that it has been written, modified and edited so many times over that what exactly the original book had -most of it or atleast a part of it has been lost .the jews were likewise given the torah and the last of the holy books is the quran given to prophet muhammad peace be upon him .the quran has never been edited and is the word of god.

not only the europeans but the muslims too had idolworshippers as ancestors . infact the holy kaba' in the city of mecca housed idols which were demolished (all save one)by prophet ibrahim on the pretext that the idol gods had a fight and the biggest one demolished the rest being the strongest to make the ignorant people realize that the gods they worshipped had no power to save their own selves!.well they were indeed sinners as they had the previus prophets to be guided on the straight path but choose to remain ignorant . pls note that i am not calling them sinners but they have been so called by the lord himself.( read that somewhere)

about the tragic incident of domolition of the buddha statues . which were not only a part of the religion of the buddhists but also a part of the culture and heritage of afganistan. muslims are required by their own religion to be tolerant to other religions and respect all the holy books ( the torah , the injeel , the bible ) along with the quran.the demolition was bought about by ignorant war lords and was condemable.about why mass protests were not leashed against it - i would blame ignorance not only of the rights of others but also of their own religion and its teachings.

i dont believe that abrahamic faiths were political movements .theres a lot more to them than mere politics. terming them political movements is greatly undermining them.

choosing the best religion hmm - well i am convinced that there is no god but allah and muhammad peace be upon him is the messenger of allah.
note : i have tried my best not to hurt anyones sentiments and in case i have - i apologise.

Islam is a political movement that uses the teachings of Mohammad as taken from both the Christan's and Jews to enslave and denominate the world into its belief of Allah. Allah is the only ruler aloud to rule and that rule will be over the entire earth. That's it in a nutshell. Nothing more and nothing less, but put a mans eternal damnation to the test and to the sword and he will bow down to anything, any god and any belief. Political or otherwise. For even communism, socialism and secularism have their gods, they are the governing.

Are you even AWARE that you've left out a huge and thriving body of indigenous folk religions which predate BOTH of your "categories" and are still practiced (many of them in a form reconstructed from ancient texts and archealogical studies) today?

Nordic, Germanic, Anglo-Saxon, Rus and Baltic heathenry, Celtic paganism, Kemetic Reconstruction, Nova Romana, Hellenismos . . .

But hey, don't let facts get in the way of your rant. I'm sure you thought you had a good point there. o_O

If I absolutely had to pick from one of those religions, I'd choose Buddhism, mostly because you can practice Buddhism in some forms without really believing anything about it.

If I had to pick *any* religion, I'd rather go for something fun like Pastafarianism, Discordianism, SubGenius, or good ol' fashioned sacrificing-virgins-to-Marduk.

Definitely agree in everything said by Today's Prophet.
Christians are generally very intolerant and ironically, very non-Christ like.
