Here is my problem. I signed up for the no call list last year. But lately I have been getting a repeated phone call from 1-888-492-4099.
When I answer a man's voice says, "hello". If I say hello then a recording will come on telling me about some credit card or something.
I cannot tell them to take me off of their call list because it is a recording. When I re-dial the number, an operator comes in and tells me that the number is disconnected.
I am ferious about this and don't know where to turn to make the phone calls stop. I get one to two phone calls from this recording a day.
Can anyone tell me what to do?

Report it to your state Attorney General's Office and provide them with the telephone number. They might have other complaints about the same number and company, and may already be investigating it. Additionally, ask your telephone company if they provide the service of blocking telephone calls, and if so, add that number to the call block list.

I also have do not call and still get spam calls at times. I use my caller I.D. and answering machine to screen the calls when I am home. Usually when the answering machine picks up, they hang up and call several days later and the same routine. I suggest getting caller ID and an answering machine and use them to screen your calls.
Also, check the phone number you listed on a search such as yahoo and you will see the same trouble others are having. Simply type in the phone number and click search. There are so many tricks they use to get around being tracked. I read somewhere a few months ago that someone has learned to circumvent the phone system to call from their home and use another phone number to place the call. When I get them, it shows one number and they say to call a completely different number.
You can file a complaint with the FTC, however I am considering writing my elected officials for stronger sanctions and penalties. Want to try the same approach anyone?

Im with you! Ive called the phone company and they cant help either!
You guys need to read this again.
The call is this:
You answer, someone says hello, then immediatly it goes into a recording. There is no warning. There is no way to talk to a person (Ive stayed on the phone for 45 minutes). They will call 10+ times per day.
Not sure on the other person, but I dont have caller ID (got # from *69). If they are a company that has valid business (ie. we've done business with them in the past year--there is a one year limit on the past business rule) then they have to identify themselves.
Moreover Ive not started doing business with any new companies in the past year. AT&T is the only company that things have changed with (Bellsouth merger, I was with them before). AT&T cant tell me who the company is that is calling and cant do anything to stop the calls.

When you answer, don't say hello. Get a recorder and say that this call is being recorded, at some point during the coversation or recording, tell them you do not wish to be contacted again and hang up, if they call you again you now have the evidence you need for an harrasment lawsuit.
You gave them a lawful command not to contact you and they refused to obey your comman. (it falls under telephone harrassment)

Just dont pick up the phone. And if you get from another telemarketer if you are talking to a person just tell him hold a second to give the impression you intrested and just leave him on hold. They wont call back because they loose time and money being on hold. And if you get junk mail with return postage fill them up with papers and send back you wont get mail from them again. But make sure the envelope is heavy so they pay alot for it.

They have their phone number forwarded to a disconnected number so that you can not reach them by calling them back. You should be able to get their name and address using their 800 number on the internet. Then report them to the Consumer Affairs of your state and theirs, and the Better Business Bureau of their state.

Just don't let is piss you off. I am on the do not call list and still get that garbage calls. That is why you have caller id so you don't have to answer the phone. I don't let the telemarketers piss me off anymore.
