If you want to achieve a New England look you could paint your walls either a light blue and decorate with a pale or lemon yellow or do vice versa.
If you want neutral a light taupe and maroon accents work geat but are more manly.
Or paint your walls a light blue and with the Navy carpet and white furniture get the scandiavian look

I had a bedroom in an old 1910 Victorian just like your room. It had 10 ft ceilings, navy blue carpet (very hard to keep clean, by the way, but so what - it's beautiful)...I put navy blue with soft rose, vine, striped wallpaper to 8 ft, then crisp white molding strip, then the rest of the wall and ceiling were that soft rose color. Gorgeous! Especially at night, the ceiling just glowed in low light. Best room I ever did. I had mahogany furniture, but your white stuff would look even better with crisp white door frames&windows. Soft, sheer white curtains billowing at the window, a few muted quilts. The whole thing can be done with paint&stencils, too. Sounds like fun!

I agree with NeedtoKnow about a tan. I think Sherwin Williams Whole Wheat would look great with your navy blue carpet. With white high gloss trim - very crisp and sophisticated!

I would go with a soft beige. You could play up the beige and white combination and then throw in a few very subtle navy accents. Don't ignore the navy. Work with it.

Any shades of beige or tan will make it look crisp and clean. But don't go too dark, it will make your room look much smaller that it actually is. Hope this helps!
