Others' beliefs are none of your business. If someone WANTS to discuss the matter with you, they will invite questions. Otherwise, MYOB.
FYI, atheists believe that there are no gods. That includes the killer Biblical God, AND all of the thousands of other gods and goddesses that humans have worshiped throughout history. Atheists simply believe in ONE LESS god than Christians do.
"Atheist" refers ONLY to one's beliefs regarding the existence of gods. There's no point in trying to make it mean more than it does.

Many atheists in the USA have developed a siege mentality, and rightly so.
The place I live, I am literally ineligable to run for any public office. I work for the state, and under the state's constitution, it could be construed as illegal for me to do so. All because I'm an atheist.
For eight years, I was a substitute teacher. The first four years, at orientations, we were openly told that if we were found to be atheists or gay, we would be terminated immediately and on the spot (even if in the middle of a class) and we would forfeit unpaid wages (which is illegal).
There is a great deal of persecution still lingering.
However! You are right. Not all Christians are guilty of this. Most of the Christians I know actually go about their faith quietly and calmly, living it instead of preaching it. While they might ask if I'd like to talk about religion, they'd never presume to force the conversation on me. I'm cool with that.
One of the best ways you can avoid raising hackles is to be almost submissive in your tone. "Please, I mean no disrespect, I'm curious about the atheistic take on..." will be generally well received, but, "So what do you atheists think about..." will, though saying exactly the same thing, likely be taken as an attack.
Also, do your research up front, and be prepared to cite sources (preferably recent, 5-10 years, 15 at the most) where you say something controvertial. "Some scientists say this disproves evolution," is going to get you raked over the coals, whereas, "In Nature, September 06, an article written by Dr. Rocky Bullwinkle at Whatsamatta U, states that this finding calls this aspect of evolution into question," is going to get you a good bit of respect.
If you should ever have a question that gets poor answers, feel free to email me privately through my profile.

Most Christian's ask in an insulting or demeaning manor. Christianity has a long history of suppresion and you're feeling a push back. Many people have died horrible deaths for not following the church. Having a degree also doesn't mean you are schooled in athiesm. Did you study anthorpology at all? It makes a difference. An education is a broad stroke. My question is to you, why are gays hated and protested so much? It states in the bible somewhere that homosexuality is a sin. But it states in the 10 commandments that thou shalt not kill. So it seems to me that killing is a much bigger sin than homosexuality. So why not protest military recruiters? They kill because it's their job. So the arguement is stronger against military. Why not protest the military?
I wasn't offended and I answered your question. Sorry if you can't understand it.

I don't get upset and I try to answer the questions honestly. I might not have answered yours because I think about what I'm going to write and miss a large portion of the questions I would have answered otherwise. Not being able to type plays a large role in it but I don't need that skill except on message boards so I've never learned it.

For an honors student in college, you sure are ignorant about science topics.
Come on now. YOu ask us to explain something to you - then you tell us not to tell you FACTS of evolution, because you do not seem to have a basis grasp of them and dont understand them, so they must be false. You insult us by telling us that the Theiry of Evolution is a joke, then demand a kind, loving response out of us??
What the F are you smoking? You were treated exactly as you treated us - sound familiar?

Because you didn't JUST ask a question to fulfill your own curiosity. You added to the question comments that expressed opinions on the basis of a total lack of knowledge. If you genuinely want to know the answer to a question you won't pre-judge the issue. You might also use your college education to write a question that is spelt correctly and capitalised.

Err...it could be because the question was trite and has been asked at least a thousand times before.
And if you really have no idea how evolution works (which is what you asked about) after going to college, I think you missed something along the way. Were you at Liberty, or Bob Jones?

i'm a Christian and it does not hassle me that non-believers have fun Christmas nor do i think of non-believers might desire to get dissatisfied that maximum Christians have fun Halloween and Valentine's Day. I honestly have acquaintances who're non-believers and that they say Merry Christmas. the two one works for me, its basically a manner of wishing others to have a remarkable day! So Merry Christmas and happy trip trips to all!

I think the reason they don't take you seriously is because they know that you don't care and you are just trying to convert or prove them wrong. Like so many of your fellow christians you have an attitude that immediately says that you are right and that anybody else's experiences are invalid. You deserve to be ridiculed for that.

Hey, you asked a rude question, why are you surprised you got rude answers?
You need to be careful how you ask things. You ask in an arrogant way and everyone will take pot shots at you. Snarky in, snarky out. Or, you reap what you sow.
If you really are trying to understand something, why did you ask the question in the manner you did? It was clear your mind was closed to the subject.
