I suspect much cheaper to live in Cape May. I find Canada to be very expensive.

Depends where in Quebec. Rent and accomodations would cost more in Montreal than a rural area, like the Gaspésie or Saguenay. Cost of living (groceries, etc.) are about the same as in the US, but Canadian sales taxes are a lot higher (mostly because there are two: 6% federal + 8% provincial). Gas costs more here than in the US (it's measured in litres in Canada, and you're looking at a little over a dollar a litre for gas in Quebec - and there are roughly 4 litres to the gallon). The US dollar and the Canadian dollar are relatively close (1$Cdn. gets you about 93¢ US), so things are pretty easy to compare.

It should be cheaper than Canada, but do remember that during the summer this is a vacation community. I actually know of one lovely, older house that used to be a B&B that is a bit out of the way and is reasonably priced....It's near the fishing docks...Good luck!
