Difference between a Clinical Biochemist and a Pathologist?

Does anyone here know what the difference is between a clinical biochemist and a pathologist?

As far as I was aware, clinical biochemists diagnosed diseases in hospital labs. But it also seems pathologists do the same thing. Yet to be a pathologist, you need to go to medical school. But to be a clinical biochemist you need a PhD in a relevant field.

What are the differences between professions?

pathologist is a doctor (medic) with interest in tissues and cadavers.
clinical biochemist is usually from biological or chemical background, specialising in medical tests. They work in a lab, run tests on blood and urine samples and some immunological test on tissues and germs. They do not conduct medical examination of dead bodies.
Both professions are supplementary and usually cooperate.

You don't necessarily need a PhD to be a clinical biochemist although the exams are rigorous. Biochemists temd to study tissue and matter from the body for disgnostic purposes. Pathologist are doctors who liaise with the biochemists but may also be involve in post-mortems as well.

I am a Pathologist. I make diagnosis on tissue samples. Some of us also see patients (Haematologists).
Biochemists are very boring people that only deal with the chemical composition of body fluids, ignoring the cells that may be living in them (which is my business!).

A pathologist looks at the bones of a human skeleton and inner workings to determine if there has been cause for foul play, ie a stabbing which might leave a small fragment of bone or a rip in a vital organ and can determine the approximate cause of death ie, from the thrust of a knife impacting on the outer ribs or the body has been moved from it's original site of death.

A Biochemist tries to accertain the exact time of death, but not necceserarly from a crimescene. They also look for other causes of death be they natural or otherwise and inform the authorities as needed.

They can often be involved in cases that have been "recovered" by archiologists who have been invesigating a certain intresting site at a certain time. Their role in this function can be vital in determining if the "victim was murdered or died of natural causes or of diet deficiancy!!.

The pathologist is a physician, the clinical biochemist might never even see a patient because they would probably be working with tissue, etc., samples. Both are "doctors", but the pathologist is a "physician" because of medical school.

CB is involved mostly in blood testing.

Pathologists mostly looks at tissues under a microscope and makes a diagnosis of cancer.

The information obtained from the study of pathology is necessary prior to developing methods with which to control and prevent disease.
