They think that the god they believe in reveals information to them and to their leaders because they think that they are a special group of people that god loves the best. It is called self rightousness.

The bible is available to all of us, but many don't want to look up key words in the original Hebrew of Greek and see from a bible dictionary what the word means. Many also don't want to study the history and customs of the people living in the bible days to see the relevance to today. A good teacher/pastor will do these things and it is astonishing the relevation that often comes from it. Reverend Richard Hogue is a good teacher, sometimes on TBN and there are a few others.

Because we have two thousand years of leaders, including some of the most original and intelligent philosophers in the history of the theological and philosophical arts. Given the depth of this treasury, I do trust the ability of the church to put forward some great people.
St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Augustine, St. Ambrose, St. Thomas More, St. Therese of Lisieux, St. Edith Stein... we have a history of grand philosophers and thinkers that rivals (and includes some of) the best minds there've been.
These are Kierkegaard and Nietzsche level intellects. I think it is safe to say there are not many at that level in our midst here at YA, and I am quite comfortable accepting them and their position as doctors of the church.

I may not fully understand you question, but as a Baptist I think that a pastor's lesson for the church was inspired from G-d, because G-d has chosen him as a representative on earth. But I don't think that he knows any more or less than us it is just that G-d in a way tells him what to say? But he has studied the Bible so maybe he understands the scriptures better than us "normals" I don't know if I answered you or not.

Remember this: Religion (Christianity specifically in this case) was around much longer than your psychology classes. Christianity did not borrow anything from psychology. You should be asking why does your psychology professer(s) borrow their "astonishing eurekas" from scriptures.

The pastor is only a vessel, who may or may not be annointed of the Word of God. The only way to discern the message is to put it through the Holy Ghost litmus test. If inner conviction is telling you the message is not genuinely annointed, then walk away. Leave it up to God to judge the motive of the pastor's heart. It is not up to us to judge, but He gives us His Holy Spirit to sense if the message and messanger are counterfeits masquerading as shepards and crusaders of Christ. As a rule of thumb, the fakes only want the miracles and leadership from the throne of God, but the authentic Holy-Ghost filled believers know the Word of God is more precious. Let the Holy Spirit guide you on this one.
May God Bless You always!

Some, but not all of the information I have read from psych textbooks is nothing more than some biblical truth borrowed and re-worded.
Psych is nothing more than a wee bit of truth gone south with man's imagination.

Do you know that the several pastors read Watchtower and Awake magazine, I used to give to a pastor the magazines he used but never told to his flocks.
If you don´t believe me notice the preach of some of them and you llok the magazines and you will see that was in previous issues.

You're right. Christians do all the things that you mention, just like the other religions do. I never heard of one religious leader say, " What I preach is wrong, the other religions have it right ".
By the way, I'm 100% non-religious.

My church gives out the message from God from His word. That message is not to the privileged group, it is for everyone. And also the same for everyone.
