I have 2 swollen glands on my neck, one I've had for a few years and now have another one that just popped up. They are sore & tender. I don't have any other symptoms (except for canker sores on the right side of my tongue). Any clue what this might be?

I'm not a physician - I'm sure there probably are people on here who may be and can answer better.

However - from past experience with canker sores - it usually means your bowel system is a little out of wack. For some reason a lot to do with the bowel system manifests itself through your mouth - thus canker sores.

I would recommend taking in a lot of fiber - to loosen things up a bit and this should help the canker sores go away.

As for the swollen lymph nodes - you could have an infection either in your ear or throat and not know about it.

I would recommend going to/or calling a dr's office. If you call they're going to want to see you anyway - so it would be better for you to be seen.

Good Luck!

Go see a doctor right now. I'm not trying to be nasty or rude but a a sore on the side of your tongue that long is something more then a canker sore. The area on your neck hopefully will be lymph nodes that are infected. They will biopsy the sore then give you a "round" of sulfa drugs to start. If they don't help they most likely will look down your throat with a scope and if there is no "invasion" into the throat itself they will remove the lymph nodes.

It could be from a sinus infection that is draining into a node in your neck. Sinus infections can be associated with headaches and earaches and congested nose. Do you have allergies? If your gum is swollen in your mouth, it could be coming from the germs from your sinuses, or could also come from a tooth inflammation such as abscessed tooth. Have you had your tonsils out? It sounds like you really need to see a doctor soon. An ear infection can lead to hearing loss and tinitus and also brain infection. It's also possible with a swollen node that you have mononucleosis, but more likely bacterial infection. See a doctor before it makes you sicker. You might want to see an ENT doctor if this recurs. They may need to do a CT scan of your head or neck.

Time to contact your physician. Swollen glands that have remained inactive...anomolous...then suddenly exacerbate into tenderness and pain have a primary indication of infection.

You may have an infection or your thyroid is causing problems. I have an under active thyroid. Get to your doctor to check it out.

You could have a thyroid condition. If you are overweight, this could be the cause. Check with your doctor.
