You need to determine how you are going to use your camera. If it's for casual snap shots, printing up to 8x10 anything over 3 meg will be fine. If you want to zoom and crop dramatically, the bigger the better, your budget is the limit. Also consider low light sensitivity and shutter lag time - items of interest if you are into sports photography. The battery pack, type of batteries, and how you recharge are considerations also. I like lithium ion batteries, but NiMH are good too.

Get to a good camera store and talk to the professionals. Try to go during a slack time and get them talking about what they love the most - cameras. You can learn a lot that way!

Yes, 7.1 megapixels is a very good camera if you are going to be using it for personal use. I have a 8.2 megapixel, and it shows great, so I'm assuming the 7.1 will not be too far off as far as quality goes. There are higher megapixels available, but it is not necessary to spend the extra money on those if you are not going to be using it for professional use.

I think your best bet would be anything nikon or cannon . Now on the cheaper scale fugi is a fine camera for beginers . my cousin just purchased the nikon d 40 and she paid 600.00 dollars us for it . I think that is kind of pricy for a beginer camera . I hope I helped and good luck .
