Peter did exactly what Jesus told him to do and if you look at Mat 28:19 you will see "baptizing them in the name" name is singular therefore what is the name of the title given
Jesus said I and my father are One (John 10:30), and I come in my fathers name(John 5:43) so Jesus is the father
and the son is easy Jesus
Jesus said (John 14:18, John 14:26)
I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. and that the Comforter or Holy Ghost will come in his father's name so that name too is Jesus

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

so let us see who's name did Peter use

Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

this is exactly right

Acts 2:38 "Then Peter said unto them, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."

Peter is telling them how to be saved. Does this mean that they will now speak in tongues? For some it shall in this generation of the end times. However to all they must be ready to be used by the Holy Spirit when He gives them the utterances to mouth. The Holy Spirit has many gifts that are given to those that are saved, and part of the body of Christ. It does not say the gift of tongues here, but those gifts include being pastors, teachers evangelists, Sunday school teachers, and He uses others to just plant a seed with a smile now and then. That is the gift of the Holy Spirit.

When you have the Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit is within you, and you don't have to wonder whether the Holy Spirit is there or no, it will show. They are the fruits of the Spirit that will be reflected. Galatians 5:22, 23; "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, "Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."

Matthew 28:19 "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:"

Remember the veil has been rent to the Holy of Holies, and the Gentile nations can now also come before the throne of God in repentance. We are to teach them the plan of God, from the Word of God, where by Jesus shed blood on the cross can cover their sins also, and they can become the sons of God. We are to tell them of the good news, that the Messiah came to earth as a baby, lived, and was crucified for the sins of many, and by repenting to the Father in Jesus name, they also can have their souls become white as snow, and have eternal life.

Matthew 16:17 "And Jesus answered and said unto him, "Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven."

Jesus is telling them, it wasn't some group of elders that revealed this to you, but the Almighty God revealed this through His Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:38 no Peter is stating exactly what Jesus said.

Matthew 28:19
[Jesus speaking] Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

John 3:3-5
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God

Peter knew what he was talking about. Peter seems to be saying that those who responded had to repent and be baptized before thy could receive the Holy Spirit.

I believe this means being baptized 'for' the remission of sin the way the word is used. The whole story.

Look also Acts 2:41, 10:47, 1 Cor 1:17, Rom 1:16.

I do not believe that baptism is a condition of salvation nor I believe that Peter nor the Bible makes it look that way.

No, neither was wrong. Remember Peter had been preaching Christ. See how it fits in? You can certainly bet they taught those new believers all they could.
Not everything is written down, only what we need...and when we arrive at something that cannot be understood, that's when you know there's another piece of information you haven't found yet that will give the more fuller understanding.
