Why does my cat insist on licking me affectionately then bite me randomly for no reason at all? It doesn’t appear that she’s playing or trying to get my attention. Sometimes I don’t think she even realizes she bites me. When I yell at her she looks at me like “What’s your problem?”

my cats is the same so glad to hear that it happens to others. well i spoke to a friend that is a nurse at a vets and she said that cats get over stimulated (some more than others) and that it is just a reaction. and nothing to worry about.
i surpose it is just like a human if you get tiggled allot then you start to laugh to much it hurts and you have had enough. its the same with a cat. she is just playing !
hope this helps.

My friend used to have a cat ,too. When she was pregnat the cat acted normal...but soon after the baby came the cat became a problem.

First it started biting cables and then scratching all of her furniture... in about a week the cat started biting my friend and almost anyone who came in touch with the baby.

The answer was easy - the cat was simply jealous...maybe your cat is jealous, too! If you have been spending time with someone new and not really playing with your cat that can be the problem. Just spend some fun time with your cat and maybe the biting habit will stop...:)

Some cats bite to play, those are usually harder bites than bites they'll give as a sign of affection. Some cats will bite if you're touching them some place that they're sensitive. I've noticed alot of cats bite if you rub past the middle of their stomach towards their hind legs. Others are sensitive on their back near the base of their tail. It all depends on the cat.

Watch your cat's body language. If you're petting her while she's licking you, watch her tail. If it starts twitching around or moving quite a bit, it's a tell-tale sign that she's annoyed with what you're doing, and it's time for you to stop. ;) Same with her ears.. if her ears go back or to the side, she's annoyed as well. Both are warning signs from your cat to you that if you don't stop what you're doing, she's going to bite. Don't punish your cat -- punish yourself. She gave you ample warning that she did not like what you were doing.

They usually bites if they need your attention and you ignored them but that's not your case, was she an outdoor cat? Mine was an outdoor cat before we adopted her and she was used with the life outside and was so protected of herself, she used to bite me too but after 4 years being kept inside my house that wild life instinct I guess disappear and she became a loving cat to me, she only nibbles me if she want me to scratch her head and I ignored her.

That is normal for cats to do. They are just showing their affection toward you, and yelling will make them not come to you at all, much less lick and love you.

My cat would do this and I would just smack her on the nose right after she bit me and now she doesn't bite anyone. But I don't think they realise that they are hurting you, I think its just a natural cat reaction.
