I was in the Military Police corps and served with several gay soldiers- back then there was no "don't ask-don't tell" so we never really talked about it, but we knew the truth. The thing with me was that after I got to know someone and trusted their abilities in a combat situation, I really didn't care who or what they liked to have sex- as long as they were there when I needed them. Most of the other guys in my unit felt the same way- there were some homophobes, but they were the minority. The US needs all the patriotic, intelligent people we can get in uniform right now. Just tell your friend to follow the don't ask don't tell policy.

Yes. It's a don't ask, don't tell policy. There are many gay men in the military, people just don't know.

Being gay does not make you less of a man or a bad Marine.

If he uses the " don't ask, don't tell" and hie sexual orientation is not obvious, i.e. not effeminate, he can go for it. He will make it through as long as he can pass muster and handle the physical demands of the job
I give him credit for wanting to serve his country unlike some of the homophobes who will probably respond to you with snide comments while sitting in front of their computers and not doing the same.

Yes! What does sexual orientation have to do with the Marines? He should get to join just like everyone else.

If he wishes to serve his country and can pass all his tests like everyone else yes. And hopefully he'll be the one who shoots Fred Phelps in the face to shut him up once and for all.

it would be totally illegal if they didnt let him in. yes they will ask him maybe but thats just to learn who he is as a person. if there is a real reason for not letting him in, then he wont get in but its not cause he is gay. everyone has the right to be gay, and that right is protected by the govt, even though the govt dont like it really, they have to protect that right.

The military has a "Don't ask, don't tell," policy. If he wants to join, he needs to not tell. They don't want to know. Now if he acts at all effeminately, he may have some serious problems.

I think they should. If he's proud enough to serve his country and courageous enough to fight for it I see no reason he can't join. Especially of the dont ask dont tell rule.

The military has a "Don't ask, don't tell" policy. They have to let him in, if he can pass muster.
