Isn't that a little like telling me I have to believe in 6-foot tall rabbits before I'll start seeing them?

Over and Over I am told I have to take a leap of faith first.

But isn't that what Hitler did when he decided to take over the world and wipe out the Jews?

They say "read the bible". How many popes "read the bible" and decided it was time to kill a new batch of heretics, or start a war against the Mulsims? How many preachers on either side of the Civil War preached that God does/doesn't condone slavery?

They say "read it with an open mind", but "open mind" looks a lot like the "closed mind" of a religious zealot.

Then when nothing works, they say I'm not "serious" enough or "sincere" enough. In other words, since I'm not a believer, I can't find God.

Bottom line seems to be I'm supposed to take their word for it: God is real. Would you buy a car like that? If not, how less likely is it you will swear life-long allegiance to a god with no more reason than that?

I feel for you. I was a full time minister for years. Im not now.

They tell you to have faith because they know you will need it!
God cannot be found or proved. I think that is because it is a life force and energy that cannot be named or located. It is in everything. And to restrict your life with rules that are not needed for a relationship with "god" would be a waste of your life. God is just not what we thought exactly. Science is proving that I think! At the smallest level of us, there is nothing but pure life energy.

I think your having trouble with the whole faith thing because deep down you know this. And there are things to do with your life that religion could restrict. thats how i felt :)

But I am spiritual. "god" is alive and well. we just call him "it" by many names. I am so sure of this. Spent years praying and studying the bible too! :) follow your feeling. God is not rules and requirments. God is life

You do not have to do anything that you do not want to. However, You know that you are born and that you will die.

To ask a question you are already looking for him. Just look around there are so many things you can do to help someone. Either it is to give something you own to someone who needs it or to give a helping hand /advise to someone in need. Try to go to work without passing judgement. Don't sweat the small stuff. I am not telling you to live life as a saint. Only to try to live each day a little better.

When you open your heart and mind is filled with consciousness that Life has to have more meaning than just wake up, go to work, pay bills and taxes and dying. Allow yourself to enjoy life and success, by recognizing that money is important, but it is not the only measure of success. It is what you do with it.

I do not know if you have any children, but a child and it's purity of love, peace, and innocents is a perfect example of God's work.

As you take this journey of life.Give life more meaning, by giving of yourself. When you find peace and happiness, you will find God.

1- If you mean by finding Him to see Him, then you'll never find Him this way, at least in this life, may be in the other life if you believe in Him and be obedient to Him. Allah, the only God that exists, when created us did so such that we are not qualified to see Him in our current form of creation. And don't see this strange, the soul that we all agree that it resides our bodies and comes out of it when dying, though , none of us can see it or even know what it really is, and it is just a creature of Allah, so you can never see Him.

2- It's totally different thing to believe in Allah, as the only God that exists, from believing in 6-foot tall rabbits.

3- You are not supposed to take their words for it, you are supposed to use your mind and ask your self,
Can this perfect universe come to existense by itself, without an able creator?
Can your perfect body make itself by itself or did this need a wise and extremely knowledgeable creator?
Can such a God need or have a son, wife or companion?

If you sincerely try to find the truth about these questions, you'll find that there must be a creator for this existence and He must be alone, no father, no son and no wife.

I believe that there is no God but Allah, and that Mohamed is His prophet.

i develop right into a christian for 15 years and that i in no way observed any information of his existence even however I did believe. so as this may be a BS argument besides. EDIT: i think of the OP needs to re-study my answer. as quickly as I stated this is a BS answer i develop into pertaining to the declare which you.. "...might desire to first believe in God in the previous i'm able to be sure (believe in) him?" As I stated, i develop right into a christian for 15 years & I in no way observed any information of his existence. which may be why i'm now an atheist.

As Greg M stated - Romans says there is evidence to God. However I have one question for you- I just went on your homepage- and found your profile and what "church" you belong to- THE CHURCH OF LOVE- If I understand this correctly you accept anyone because of "self-less love" so please accept those of us, who know the love of God. Some of the things that the church of love believe in is against the Word of God , so if you continue in them you will not find Him. You have faith that what you believe is right - with no proof, so please accept our belief. And by the way- God did prove Himself to me before I accepted Him- but if you are closed minded and have a hard heart, and no ears to hear, then you will not find God- He seeks us first- look- Please do not report me because you disagree with what I just said - I will not report you because I disagree with you.

what answer were you wanting? all the 1,000,000,000 times this is asked, it always comes up with the same answer. It's based on faith, if you don't have it...which is what you're saying, that you don't have faith....then how are you to understand? You already said you don't have faith in it, so what are you asking? "how do you achieve faith in it?"It's simple...if you don't have faith that it's real, then it won't become real to you. but you probably could make it a whole lot easier and just search over the several different times questions exactly like this are asked everyday.

I don't believe that's true. The book of Romans states that there is already enough evidence around you to believe. We chose to worship the creation, rather than the creator.

If God wants you to have a Damascus Road experience, he'll give it to you, but I believe he feels he's already said everything he's going to say.

God proves himself to EVERYONE over and over again (each person differently in different circumstances). It is us who choose to blow it off as "coincidence" or "it just happened". The reason why people say you have to first believe, is because no matter how many times God shows himself to you, you will never believe it was HIM unless you first believed it to be so. Hope this helps.

Most people have it backwards. You have to learn about something first, before you can believe in it. In many cases, they have forgotten that they went to sunday school and were taught the words, then they believed in God and Christ, then they were saved.

Despite what anyone tells you, if they hadn't been taught about God, either in the church or at home, then they would have never believed in him, and asked him to be their savior.
