I have the system32\hal.dll file missing or corrupt message as posted here a few times but the xp cd does nothing and there is only a black screen with that message. i tried pressing f4 and all the f buttons and I am so pissed off right now, my laptop is BRAND NEW I TELL YOU! please help!

If you do a clean re-install of Windows you will lose all your data that is located on your C drive.

from my experience with WindowsXP.
there is 2 ways to solve this problem
1- reinstall windows again :D
2- remove the hard disk from your computer, attach it to another PC and copy the file into windows/system32, you may find that the file is not missing but it's corrupt.
OR you can install a copy of Linux instead of Windows :D

Soundfs like the hard disk has totally failed ...
If it's still in warrenty, take it back to the shop.
