as yet we only have evidence that there is global warming but only political consensus that CO2 is the cause there are far more pressing problems like housing shortages caused by poor economic policies doesn't everyone think they may be being conned by politicians CO2 is great diversion

in other words we must be very careful that too little knowledge about something that will take a long time to resolve, may do us more harm psychologically than good, humans do not normally know the climate changes, they evolve their culture to suit the fluctuations because there are so many variables to climate fluctuation there has been hundreds of eustatic fluctuations we live on an earthly climate that is affected by waves of periodic natural events. humans are part of nature and although human activity may affect climate, it is wrong by politics to use fear once more as a means of giving the masses a listening impediment . CO2 is a symptom, the real question is, what is the cause, that must be addressed first , and the answer is greed, and lack of personal disciple the only real issue affecting humans and the environment

Bob said, "A theory is scientifically proven when the scientific community accepts it as fact. "
Really, Bob? Did a scientist tell you that? If so, he or she is an idiot.
What we do "know":
CO2 does have an effect as a GHG. What amount is not quite known. There is not even scientific consensus on the precise amount of warming is created by the greenhouse effect.
Go ahead. Anyone. Tell us how much of the current global temperature is due to the Greenhouse Effect. Either the range of claimed values or degree of error will be greater than the stated amount of global temperature change in the past 150 years.

You're right that there are other pressing problems such as housing and whilst this is a serious issue it's something that only affects a comparatively small number of people.
Global warming on the other hand, if unchecked, will have serious consequences for everyone on the planet. It's something that needs to be addressed as a priority if we are to stave off the worst consequences.
The way that CO2 and the other greenhouse gases contributes to global warming is something that is clearly understood and whilst this may appear to be a new phenomena it was back in 1896 that Swedish chemist Svante Arrhenius established how greenhouse gases work and the role they play in global warming.
Since then we've had over 100 years to study the properties of greenhouse gases and it's something that we now understand very well.
Basically... heat from the sun reaches us in the form of solar radiation, this has a very short wavelength and passes unimpeded through the atoms and molecules of gas in the atmosphere. This heat energy is absorbed by the planet and everything on it, when the ambient temperature drops the heat energy is released in the form of thermal radiation. This has a longer wavelength than solar radiation and it's progress through our atmoisphere and out into space is hindered by the large molecules of the greenhouse gases.

CO2 is only one of the causes of global warming, but it's the primary cause right now. Just examine the data. Here's a plot of atmospheric CO2 concentrations from 1960-Present:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Mauna_Loa_Carbon_Dioxide.png
Now compare that to the average global temperature from 1960-Present:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Instrumental_Temperature_Record.png
If that doens't convince you, look at this global climate model over the past century as compared to the measured average global temperature, also broken down by contributing components:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Climate_Change_Attribution.png
It's not that complicated really. We know CO2 is a greenhouse gas. We know modern humans emit a ton of CO2. We've measured how much the Earth has warmed, and we know "natural" components (sun, volcanoes, etc.) haven't contributed enough to account for the recent global warming, as you can see in the above model. Once you add human greenhouse gas emissions to the model, it matches the measurements pretty accurately. That's why people accept that human CO2 emissions are the primary cause of global warming - the scientific evidence is overwhelming.

Well first off, I don't think EVERYONE is accepting it.
Two, because they don't WANT to prove it. The global warming crowd cares nothing about proof, they want their agenda passed. If they went out and actually tried to prove it they could run the risk of being wrong.

Al has declare the debate is over.
So don't bother people with facts or those who disagree with Al.
Or even have a reasonable discussion about what is going on and the causes because you are in with big oil.

To Professor evo:
Quoting Nickel Johann: "Global man-made CO2 (only... it accounts for 70% of all the man-made greenhouse gases):
=24Gt/year" Now, I would say that 24 Gt/year is significant.
This was in response to your statement: "We humans are just to small and insignificant to have any effect on the earths climate- people just need to think about it, its more common sense than science."
sigh. It is, and have, in reproducible laboratory tests been confirmed that CO2 leads to increased temperatures. It is easily done and there's plenty of information out there that proves that it is so. It's mainly the scientists that are being unified in this question, but recently a consensus among politicians is, gladly, emerging.

because they are sheep and are willing to believe anything the local liberal TV news show tells them.
BTW... one of the WORST economic policies is the minimum wage law.
Minimum wage got instituted in the 1970's.
Almost immediately there was a massive recession.
Every time minimum wage has increased.... there has been recession.
Here's how it works:
Minimum wage instituted or increased.
That means the employer has to pay more to make the product or provide the service.
The employer ALSO has to pay more in taxes and unemployment insurance. (costs increase by a higher percentage than the wage...)
Prices rise.
Because of the way supply and demand works... fewer products sell.
Because fewer products sell, fewer employees are wanted because fewer products need to be made.
Guess who gets fired first.... the minimum wage employee.
Now we have reduced production and reduced employment and higher prices....
THAT'S CALLED RECESSION WITH INFLATION!
Idiots like minimum wage laws.

U know enough about CO2 to show your stupidity . CO2 is not the problem it is how Mother nature marks the molecules that the plants need to clean up. The environmentalist is doing this hole thing to make money and the cost will be on the poor. The plants take in CO2 and give us back the O2 and the plants keep the C,to make there food. So u want to starve the plants. U should not as we cannot live without them.

It's been scientifically proven. Words aren't proof, you need to look at the data. Here's the data, very short and very long, with references to the peer reviewed scientific literature.

A theory is scientifically proven when the scientific community accepts it as fact. There is no "Supreme Court" to decide, and there are always a few skeptics. The scientific community accepts global warming as proven.

It's not a "liberal/Democratic" deal, it's a science deal:

Thank you, i thought i was the only one who could see this nonsense. Quite simply, co2 is a product of heat, to say co2 causes global warming is a bit like saying smoke produces fire. Is it not obvious that 'the sun' is the real culprit- an unpredictable ball of immence heat that is always changing. We humans are just to small and insignificant to have any effect on the earths climate- people just need to think about it, its more common sense than science.
