No it will not be another Iraq but worst than that. We should not mix up Iraq situations with Iran. In Iran there never been a brutal leader like Saddam rather whole nation is under same umbrella. We should not forget that despite of America's direct military support Iraq was defeated in the Gulf War between Iran and Iraq. With the present military capabilities of Iran, attacking Iran might bring disaster to that region even out side.

There are a couple of reasons why it would probably not end up like Iraq, not that I believe we should invade it, anyway.

Number one, Iran has a long history of being a unified country, not a mishmash of warring tribes put together by a European nation and told that they were now a country. Number two, there are a lot of people in Iran who are very pro-US and would prefer an American-style democracy rather than a theocracy. But it's up to them to get it together and oust the current administration, not for us to go in and hand it to them.

False--the primary problem in Iraq is religious. There are three distinct factions fighting for control of the government---Shiite, Sunni, and the Kurds. In Iraq, there is only one group of Muslims, Shiite.

However, I doubt that the U.S. would invade Iran although they could bomb their nuclear weapon facilities into obvliion.

False: It would make Iraq look like a Sunny day in Spring. In Iraq at least there were always people who did not like the government and the government was a dictatorship. In Iran that is there lawfully elected government. The President there is not a dictator or a military leader, in fact his party lost ground in recent local elections. Invading Iran would be a whole different animal then Iraq

No. Iran is a really powerful country and it is unlikely that we could take Tehran without using special weapons. Of course, setting off special weapons in Iran would likely garner a whole shipload of attention from the Russians, who are, after all, RIGHT NEXT DOOR.

Also, Iran does not have the internal ethnic divisions that Iraq does. Iran was not created by the colonial powers, so it has its own, cohesive, Persian identity.

But you go down th'ar, General, them's Cheyenne Braves, and Sioux. Won't be nuttin' left of you but a greasy spot.

Probably not, because Iran doesn't have the ethnic mix that Iraq does, but if we did attack Iran, it would get real quiet in Iraq and Afghanistan. Iran is providing arms and agents to both insurgencies.

True/False.
If we did anything it would probably just be airstrikes against nuclear reactors. If we where to launch a full scale invasion, initially there would be major turmoil, probably dwarfing that in Iraq, but since there would no longer be an agitating nation supplying and training the radical butchers, (unless Russia wanted to start the cold/proxy war again), we could probably quell the resistance eventually.

Probably true, they have no shortage of zealots. But someone needs to take those nukes out. My guess is that Israel will be dropping some very large bombs in the very near future. Thats starting to look like the best way to proceed, negotiation isnt working and they are forching the issue- why invade when all we need to do is blow the nuclear sites up?
