Well Christians were actually persecuted greatly under Hitler, many catholic and protestant clergy were sent to concentration camps for preaching against the Nazis, Of course there were many churches that accepted Nazi policies but these could hardly be described as Christian churchesany longer: the bible was replaced by Mein Kampf (hitler's book) and the cross replaced by the swastika..sick or what?
God bless

Everybody who was a Christian was put under the scrutiny of the SS so that they did not hide Jews. If the Nazi agenda was spoken against in the pulpit people paid with their lives. All kinds of ingenious plans to help the Jews were carried out by all faiths but, especially the Catholic Church that lost 1 million members in the Holocaust.

Those who realised what was going on, men like Bonhoeffer and Niemoller, were faced with an agonising choice: do I speak out publicly against Hitler, risking imprisonment and death? Or do I keep my head down, carry on with my Christian work as quietly as possible, and try to subvert from within?
Similar choices were faced by Christians in Russia under Communism and in South Africa under apartheid.
Let us hope and pray that we are not faced with that kind of choice in our own lifetime. I for one have no idea which way I would go.

Because they were wrong? Because they were weak?
There were some great Christians opposed to Hitler. Check out Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who was killed because of a plot to assassinate Hitler. He was an amazing man. Or Corrie Ten Boom (I think that's her name) who hid Jews in her house, she wrote a great book called "The Hiding Place." Not all Christians sucked up to Hitler.

Remember, a Christian did not cause the holocaust. Rather it was a lack of belief in the Jewish or Christian God that caused the holocaust. Which is worse here. People who were scared that they would be imprisoned and gased or the the fact that Hitler almost took over a significant portion of the world who didn't believe in God? Remember Hitler's main inspiration for his action was Fredrich Neitche. In addition there were many Christian who did resist Nazism and Hitler and risked there lives to hide Jews in their houses (some good many of them lost their lives. How many atheists hid Jews in their houses? Please.

They were part and parcel of the authority-driven culture and society. After WW I, Germany was starving to death. Hitler was charismatic. Hitler was not wicked outwardly in the beginning. He was charming. His wickedness became apparent gradually. The German church realized too late that it was like a frog in slowly boiling water.

Those that did not "suck up" to Hilter were never heard from again. The only ones you have heard from are the ones that did compromise their religious convictions by tolerating Hilter.
Think about that before you bastardize Christianity again.

Because religion and government always go hand in hand.
In the bible it mentions a prostitute by the name of Babylon the Great, which symbolizes all the false religions in the world.
Now she prostitutes herself in order to gain influence in the world. Prostitutes herself in the way that, even though they (false religions) say that they stand for something, yet by their actions they dont show it.
Later the bible mentions how those who supported "her" would turn against her and destroy her eventually

Because the Catholic religion wants to dominant everything. They probably figured Hitler was going to win the war so they better suck up to him to keep there power or otherwise there religion may be doomed and the money will stop flowing in.
