At the risk of being another person who doesnt answer your question.... !

You might actually start by ringing your local councils offices and speaking to an environmental health officer, they can be quite helpful if you catch them on a good day!

There are a list of petty regs as long as your arm regarding food prep premises even things like the surfaces of the ceiling so you need to get EHO to even visit you and tell you if you could do anything at home - it must be possible otherwise there would be no people baking home made jams at farmers markets!

If you dont need much space and are tidy clean cook you might be able to persuade a local restaurant to hire you a couple of hours of their kitchen on a day that they dont open for example.

I have never seen any kitchen for hire notices in my local paper so good luck with that idea.

hope your not self taught or you could go mad asking your self the question hehe

good luck let us know if you crack this one it's a really interesting question

oh yes also get " safer food better business" book for free from food standards web site, this will give you some insigt into all the nonesense you will have to deal with in preparing food for sale

Hi,

are you in the UK?

if so, you should register with the environmental health dept at the local council within 3 months of starting up.

yes, you can cook from home as long as it's clean and "suitable", eg not too much wood etc.

also, see www.food.gov.uk and search for "safer food better business" for guidance.

good luck!

Talk to a realtor or look in the paper under "Commercial leasing". My cousin leased a commercial unit for her catering. It's leased by the square foot, so watch out for that cost. Then get your insurance and permit from the city, etc... and you're good to go!

I'm pretty sure it's mainly about how you store things and ensure they remain at a safe temperature. Ask your local environmental health department.
