Yes, it is a good idea.
I bought a loose diamond at uniondiamond.com but I have found a website that just recommends 2 places online to buy a diamond.
Blue Nile and union diamond.

I have heard all great things about engagement rings from their website. The customer service folks are great to deal with and very helpful for any questions you might have ... I do own a few of their pearl pieces and couldn't be happier!! The prices are very reasonable and the quality is also fabulous.

I wouldnt but that's just me. I did buy my wedding gown off of ebay so who knows. However dont think you're going to get a ring for 0.01. They will often have a reserve, meaning they wont sell for less than a certain price, and in an acution the bidding goes crazy in the last few minutes or seconds.

Absolutely! My fiance bought my diamond for my engagement ring from there. He bought the diamond loose and got it appraised at a jewlery store here and they appraised it for a lot more than he paid. It was nice that he bought it loose as well because then he got to go and pick out the setting for it on his own according to what he liked. Good luck!

My ring came from there - we had it appraised locally, and it appraised for over double what he paid for it. Not too shabby, I'd say!
Plus, he felt proud b/c he "designed" it himself. He picked out the stone and then picked out the setting and had it put together and shipped over...voila! A gorgeous ring :)

I have not purchased from Bluenile before but have read good things about them. Forbes Magazine for instance rated bluenile their favorite online jeweler for five years running.

No engagement rings for me from there, but my ex bought me some platinum earrings from there, and I certainly had no complaints!
