I need 20 hours of volunteer work to complete my culinary degree. Any suggestions on what I can do? There aren't alot of 'soup kitchens' in my area and I'm pretty sure stocking shelves in food pantry won't cut it. I need to complete this by July so any suggestions will be appreciated!

Local churches often have benefit suppers(pancake suppers, bbq's,etc.) that could use any help that they can get. Usually the planning and participation part would run you up to 20 hours. Most culinary schools will accept a sort of apprenticeship as your volunteer hours also.Check and see if this applies to your school. As a last resort, you could come up with your own benifit deal and see if your church or local organization would let you use their facilities to put this on. We had a high school student use our church to host a spaghetti supper for her senior project with the proceeds going to a charitable organization. You could also cater a small event or party where the proceeds, if any, go to a charity.Good Luck!

Salvation Army soup kitchen. I live in a town with 15,000 people in it, and it has a Salvation Army soup kitchen.

Also consider, Meals On Wheels, as well as the Senior Citizen Center [in our county the local centers serve food to senior citizens during the week].

Is there a 'Meals On Wheels' program in your area? We have on here, I used to do that for volunteering back in high school. They prepare meals and deliver them to elderly and the disabled around the community that can't leave their homes, so they can still get good nutrition.
