I had a friend who decided to become Christian about a year ago, then I found out she smokes marijuana. I think that is hypocritical. Am I wrong? Not only is it illegal, but she used to scold me for using curse words but doesn't understand why I have a problem with her smoking. Just curious as to what others, Christian and otherwise, think about this.

I'm not saying I have a problem with pot, I think it is amusing that she tells me to watch my mouth because my cursing offends her because of her beliefs, then tokes up. And yes, she does drive under the influence and has with her kid in the car, but when I brought that up to her she said it was none of my business but she couldn't be around me if I didn't stop cussing!lol

It seems you're comparing "apples v. oranges." Your friend apparently feels it is immoral to swear, but NOT immoral to smoke marijuana, irrespective of its illegality. This is not hypocrisy; it is merely a matter of making moral choices. For her, one thing is immoral; the other is not. Also, if you don't feel smoking marijuana is immoral, then on what basis do you attack her as a hypocrite?

Marijuana is a non-addictive, relatively benign herb that has been conclusively shown to have medicinal applications to treat hundreds of different illnesses. Also, there is much evidence to suggest that marijuana was the active ingredient in the priestly anointing oil of the Old Testament. Give your friend a break, though you might tell her to lay off you. You have a right to say what you want, and she has no right to criticize you for the language you use.

Good luck!

although I strive to be like Jesus...I am not Jesus, I am human man and have human weaknesses. It doesn't mean He loves me any less. Remember Jesus came to cure the sick and weak, no the healthy and strong. As far as weed being an illegal substance yes it is wrong, but, I've smoked it for years and probably always will. I go to church almost every Sunday and have been on mission trips and belong to bible study groups. I view myself as a Christian with a weakness of the flesh which I battle over constantly because I personally see no difference between coming home at night and taking a hit of smoke or coming home to a Vodka and soda, but, that's just me. Also, I don't mean to preach but, before we remove the chip in our neighbor's eye we should woory about the log in our own! Different story....as far as driving and doing it around her children, then I guess I'm a hypocrite too because I think she should be shot!

I don't feel it is right for anyone to smoke it. When we abuse our bodies by either overeating, drugs or alcohol, it is not a sin unto death but a sin unto our health. God wants us healthy and 100% alert to do Christian work for Him. I've known a few people over the years that have smoked marijuana. Their minds are fried, they've even admitted it. They've lost track of time and it is now difficult to carry on a conversation with them. There have been way too many car accidents that have done harm to oneself or others resulting in even death. I am not for legalizing marijuana. People would over abuse it even moreso as they do now. I prefer to keep my wits about me, for the time soon coming when the anti christ, (Satan,) is cast onto this earth. I would not want to be hung over or spaced out for the work that will need to be done in my Father's name. I would like to be as sharp as possible when Christ returns. I don't understand why people can't get high on life, with all the beautiful things in this world to see and experience. I don't need drugs or alcohol to have a great time. To me, using artificial means, drugs and alcohol to make oneself happy and high are a cop out not to mention dangerous. Just a few weeks ago, I saw a young mother drive into the parking space next to me at the grocery lot. She was smoking weed, and had three small children in the back seat while she waited for either her boyfriend or husband to return. How many more problems and tragedies do you think will take place involving innocent people if it were legalized?

We are all hypocrites,in time she will be convicted by the Holy Spirit.Christians are a work in progress,God does not force us to change,it is when we come to a place that we really want to honor and walk in obedience that God has the ability to change us.Until then all we can do is pray for others out of a heart of love and not judgment, this is not easily done either, because we all tend to be judgmental especially when we see the hypocrisy in others. We can judge but this only harms us in the end,we can love and this will bring true change to ourselves and the world around us.We are all made of the same sinful nature, for me this is why I need Jesus so much.He alone is savior and redeemer,he is the example I follow.

Well, since mary jane is a naturally occurring plant, if you're a Christian you must believe that God put it there. He created everything, right, and gave man full run of the place. So what's the big deal, other than the legality?

It should not be illegal.

Pot was not illegal until the 1930's when the Government demonized it, and still have attack/propaganda ads villainizing it. If the god made all plants for human use, was there a clause in there that excludes pot?

I think it would be wrong only in the extent that it is illegal in our society. But Christians haven't always followed the laws of the government either, look at the early church, they were always sneaking around trying not to get caught!

I don't see what the big deal is. If she's not driving under the influence or using it as an emotional crutch, it might just be a way for her to unwind. Everyone needs a way to relax now and then. I prefer to meditate, but she has her own way.

Are there Biblical verses denouncing smoking pot? If not, there's no basis for your claims other than your own uptight opinions. I have to assume you know as little about Christianity as you do about the effects of marijuana.

Yes, you're wrong. Nowhere in the 10 commandements does it say "Thou shalt not partakith in the smoking of herbs" As a matter of FACT the bible says ALL seed bearing plants are here for us.
