It would really depend on your computing needs. I have used 95, 98, Me, 2000, XP, Vista and Now Windows Longhorn 2008 Beta 3. For stability nothing beats Longhorn. For ease of use nothing beats XP. For eye candy nothing beats Vista. So it all boils down to what you want to do with your computer. At the present time, XP is the most compatible with programs and hardware, however, Microsoft will gradually start pushing us all to upgrade to Vista and will eventually force us all to upgrade. If you know your hardware is compatible with Vista, installing Vista may be what you want to do.

If you mean a new operating system, then you might just as well go with Vista Home Premium. XP is still available, but it will soon become a dying horse.

I know that there are allot of negative comments about Vista, and all I can say is that I've been running it for a little over 4 months with out any problems. It requires a little tweaking but so does XP.

What do you mean "new windows program". Do you mean like youre going to install Vista? Or just small programs for everyday use?

go with xp, vista is too unstable. Microsoft is still fixing bugs, so you don't want to be their guinea pig discovering new bugs. If your installing it in your home, then go with xp home edition and if its it in your office, go with xp professional
