Biggest battle in terms of casualties or in terms of soldiers? Or what else?

I'd say the battle of midway was a pretty big battle, a couple huge as$ destroyers and aircraft carriers pounding the s hit out of each other would be a site to see.

The fate of the world was decided on the banks of the Volga in the winter of '42, so i'd have to agree with people above....put my vote down for Stalingrad.

I think two answers before this say Stalingrad, and I agree. It think its amazing that Leningrad, about a year before Stalingrad, had about 1.5m casualties as well. Total for both, over almost four years, was over 3m+ wounded.
