Be VERY careful - I would not touch it with a barge pole!

In order to be able to write motor insurance in the UK a company must be an authorised insurer under the Insurance Companies Act 1982. It is unlikely that a company registered in Bulgaria would meet this requirement.

Check the company with the Association of British Insurers before parting with any money!

Hi, Well now, this is a quesiton that many people have asked and the same answer keeps coming back ie - When you take your car to Bulgaria you are cover by british insurance for up to either 30 days or 90 days depending on your gtrrn card terms. However, there are various companies now in England that do insurance in Bulgaria, we will be facing this problem ourselves later in the year. The insurance company that insure our properties are
www.intasure.com/?introducer=204000 Give them a call but to be honest I think it's best to get Bulgarian insurance. What
if you have an accident you will probably find yourself uninsured as it is not legal to drive in England on insurance from another country if you are resident in England. Hence the time limit restrictions on green cards.

You will then probably find yourself in court for driving without insurance, but the insurance company from the other party could well go after you for your house and assets to cover any compensation they may have to pay out.

Hope this is helpful. Very best of luck

I suppose you could do it to save money, but I would not be looking forward to attempting to file a claim with them. It probably works if you live where insurance coverage is mandatory. However, if there is a dispute on coverage in the event of a claim, to whom will you complain when the payment isn't what you expect ? I don't think the government insurance regulators in the UK will be able to help you when the insurer is based in Bulgaria.

Why do people assume companies in another country like Bulgaria are idiots and a bunch of losing scammers?

Bulgarian companies are very professional and will be able to assist you in finding out whether or not they are able to cover you and in the event of an accident they will pay out and you won't have any trouble, because they appreciate you business and want you to keep being their customer.

Well they are in EU, so I guess their Policies are acceptable in UK - and I assume the Bulgarian Insurance Company is aware that the car is being used in UK...

This could be the first indication of cracks in 'Rip Off Britain' (or, as the Business operating here like to call it 'Treasure Isle') ...

Of course (just like Beer/Wine and Tobacco) "our" Government will soon put a stop to it when they discover Insurance Tax reciepts dropping off ..

As far as I know you insure with a company in the same country as you reside/use the car in. Personally, even if you COULD do this, would you really WANT to just to save a few quid? I wouldn't.

For GODS sake check that the insurance company is an AUTHORISED INSURER and is on the FSA REGISTER to transact insurance in the UK.

If not you may be committing an offence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also. Will a Bulgarian insurance company be contactable - do you know Bulgarian? Will the policy be in Bulgarian? How have they organised their claims service?

You get the idea - forget it!

A bit risky I would think, you'll probably find they won't pay out for anything in the event of a claim, there is a reason for it being cheaper.
