I purchased 4 airline tickets 6 months ago with continental for July 1st to the 13th, something came up and I want to extend my trip 1 night, they told me it would cost $100 per ticket (total of $400). It seems excessive and unfair, is there anyway around this?

I do not think there is anything you can do. Most airlines have a fee for this. It is in the small print. They can charge you the fee plus the difference in prices of the new ticket. For instance, the new date may be a more expensive one because some days of the week cost more than others. Mondays are usually more expensive. You may also lose the break you got for advance purchase if it is now close to you flight time, not two weeks or more in advance.

Every airline is different and ticket deals have different rules. Some let you change the dates, but not the destinations. Frequent flier tickets often have different rules even for the same airline.

Next time take this into consideration before booking. Each airline is different and it may be worth choosing one that cost a bit more if they have more flexible rules.

I am sorry not to be able to give you better news. You might want to call them again just to make sure. Often every ticket agent isn't as informed as the next. Or as sympathetic.
Good luck and have a fun trip

Only if you have an unrestricted ticket, which is normally a full-fare ticket. Rarely does someone buy an unrestricted ticket, as the fare can be 2 or 3 times what most people pay. Actually, $100.00 per ticket is not that bad, many fare-classes do not permit changes or have a much higher fee than $100.00. You need to find out what fare-class you are flying, which is designated by a letter c,d,h.l, y etc., then you need to find out exactly what the restrictions are pertaining to that fare-class. You most likely will find that you bought a restricted ticket that charges $100.00 for rescheduling, in which case there's not much you can do about it.

Nope! Sorry but there is a fee for changing the date and there will be additional charges if you happen to get a more expensive flight out.

It depends on what day you fly out and what time of year, prices fluctuate on these two items. For example if you were planning to leave on a wed and now you want to leave on a Friday the price will substantially increase....it would be a good idea to call the airline and see what they can do for you
