Im not contesting the existence of a man called Jesus who many believe to be the son of God. But.. all religions being tolerant of other peoples beliefs what does a religious person think we atheists should make of a man claiming to be the son of God?

If you don't believe, why do you like so much to talk about it?

I don't believe in monsters under my bed, but I don't create a label for myself and talk about it all the time.

Why must you talk and discuss a topic you don't believe in? How does Jesus effect you if he was only a man and not the son of God? Why does he fasinate you?

I think you want to believe. Like a homophobic that talks about gay people all the time.. a person like that is a closet homosexual, but scared to come out of the closet.... Are you in the closet?

I am an Atheist.

The religious think that Christ was the son of god because the bible tells them so, it's only the bible that suggests he claimed to be the son of a god. He apparently did live and might have even said a few things that would have been considered forward thinking by the standards of the time, especially in an area of the world that STILL shows signs of being a trouble hot-spot, where free thinking doesn't exist and where male vanity rules.

Christ wasn't the only person telling others to chill at the time.

When Jesus proclaimed to be the Christ, the only Son of God, He was proclaiming to be equal with God. That is why they accused and convicted Him of blasphemy. The sentence for blasphemy is death.

When standing before the court, they asked Him, "Are you the Son of God?" In essence, they were asking Him, "Are you God?" How did Jesus reply? He said, "I am."

The Jews obviously did not believe He was God and for that they sentenced Him to death. If they were correct in their thinking and Jesus was not the only Son of God, then they did what was right according to Jewish law. They put to death someone who committed the most vial crime against God. However, if they were wrong about Jesus and He was the Son of God, then they committed a most vial crime against God.

The real proof that Jesus is God comes in His resurrection. However, even that is questionable for us today as we only have witnesses and no scientific proof of this. It requires on our part a great deal of faith to believe it.

Faith is the core of the entire issue. This is a question that all people are asked: Do you believe in Jesus? Do you believe that He is God incarnate, both God and man?

This is a question you must answer for yourself.

As for anyone who is atheist, if a man claims to be God Himself, it would be foolish to quickly make an assertion before inspecting the facts. Could it be true? Before coming to a satisfactory answer, one would need to perform research. They would have to analyze the life and person of Jesus. Did He have the characteristics and qualities of God? Does His words prove to be true? If I pray to Him, does He answer? What was the significance of His life and death? What other evidence is there today that proves His existence? Is He active on the earth today? Why should I believe Him? Why shouldn't I?

If you don't believe in God, then how can you believe he is the son of God. I would think an atheist would stop there and say - you are a man, but not the son of god. And being polite you'd leave it like that.

I personally believe he existed but all the stories about him are wildly exaggerated or just plain lies. I am pretty sure he never claimed to be the Son of God - he would have been beaten to death instantly or if not then his followers would just have lost all respect for him.
He had some good moral things to say - you cannot deny that unless you say that the things he said were also added later or exaggerated - but he was not holy.

I personally think that Jesus was a local celebrity. He was a free thinker and opened people's minds up to all sorts of things they hadn't considered before.

The bible is an ancient version of 'Heat' or 'OK' magazines - made up of half truths, hearsay and myth.

Jesus lived I think. But he was a celebrity like Brad, Angelina or whoever.

The people idolised him because he was somehow unique - they'd never seen or heard anyone like him before. If he were alive today - he'd have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and his hand would be pressed into wet cement on the footpath outside that Chinese restaurant.

And the paparazzi would record it all through their camera lenses.

That's my opinion anyway.

I think Jesus was a great great man. I think he was a man who wanted to change the world for the better and really tried to do so. He was like a Buddha, John Lennon, or Gandhi. I don't really think he even said he was the son of god. Like the fisher mans theory. Guy catches medium size fish, 2 weeks it is a big fish 4 weeks it is a huge fish 2 years it is one of the biggest fish 100 years later it is and will always be the biggest fish ever caught in the world.

Well did he really claim that .... when asked a straight question he avoided answering - he claimed a special relationship - and to be one of the Sons of God - but all Jews are the sons of God - hey i'm a peacemaker (sometimes) so that makes me one too. I think if we have too choose between Mad, Bad or God i'd go with Mistranslated.

I believe Jesus is apart of the trinity. So he is God. I also believe that he exist strongly because evolution does not have a tied connection. The fact that a baby is made miraculously with only sperm and egg or the fact that we our designed wonderfully and perfectly made shows evidence that God exist.

From a non-religious perspective...Jesus was THE perfect man. He loved and adored women ( which is what all women long for ) He had total respect for His Heavenly Father. He laughed and cried with His friends. His desire was to set people free and to heal their pain. His words " there's no greater love than this, that a man lay down His life for His friends "
In Luke 2v52: It's written: and Jesus increased in wisdom, and in stature and years, and in favour with God and man....
how many of us can live up to this truth...
*Blessings* : x )
