Well if your taking about talking a vicodin I would go ahead but immediately make a doctor appointment. If your talking a soma its even better but one way or another if it doesn't go away overnight I would make an appointment.

Pain is your body's way of telling you there is something wrong. In your case, pain medication only masks the problem. Unless you find out what is wrong, the pain won't go away. I suggest seeing your doctor. A Cat Scan will tell if your back is out of alignment or if you have a herniation. An anti-inflammatory (Ibuprofin or the like) may help-along with ice for a few days. I have had this problem for over thirty years and I see a chiropractor once a month which helps the problem from occuring. If you decide to see a chiro, you may need to go several times a week for a few weeks to keep your back in alignment. Ask you doctor if simple stretches may help. He should be able to help with that. Some doctors (MD's) don't believe in chiropractors, and some people can't tolerate the adjustments, but if you go and can tolerate it, you will feel better faster. Good luck!

As a fellow back sufferer, I assume you have a chiropractor. I'd go that direction. He/she can fix the subluxation. The reg. Dr can only treat the symptoms. Go to the chiro first, then go to the doc for pain meds. There is a new thing called a decompression table. When my herniated disk starts giving me fits. I get on that table that is 2 pieces (face down), I get strapped down (ooh!) and it stretches my back on regular intervals. Ask your Chiro about it. If you DON'T currently have a Chiro, make sure the one you get has one. When I get off of there it takes about an hour (It's my low back) and then it's like magic! I'm up and running again! It's the best thing that's happened to the Chiro Industry in decades. I walk in literally crying, and walk out smiling because it already starts to help. And what's even better is it lasts a lot longer! Hope that's helpful. I know your pain! It really sucks.

A chiropractor is going to diagnose the problem and have you feeling better after the first treatment. I recommend you get an appointment to a chiropractor today. I've enclosed a link where you can find a qualified chiropractor in your area.

I would go to the doctor and take your medication as perscribed. You may need some therapy this time. Your awfully young to be on pain meds, what is causing your back pain? Once you know that maybe you'll be able to get it fixed instead of suffering and being addicted to pain meds. Good luck and if your doctor isn't telling you what is wrong then you need to see another doctor who is going to take MRI's and other test to see what is causing you this pain. Believe me you don't want to spend the rest of your life on pain meds, its no picnic. Take care of yourself.

Try the med see if it makes it any better...if things get worse or there is no improvement in the next 4-6 hours, then contact your doctor for further advice.

Hope you are feeling better soon

Take the medication as prescribed (check to see if the medicine is not expired) and if the pain continues seek medical care.

make an appointment to the doc is the safest route to go. Once you have screwed it up totally, you will be in a wheelchair...is that where you are hoping to be?
