Do you think that the new regulations on advertising for things have taken it too far? I mean- if a kid wants fruit loops theyre going to have to ask their parents, who could easily veto it. at least theyre not advertising alchohal.
im curious to what you think..




btw.. i had NO idea what category to put it in so please dont scold me for it.

I agree with you. It isn't the Kellogg's Corp. or the Betty Crocker Company making kids fat, it is the PARENTS. They need to DECIDE what their children are eating, how much they are eating and make sure they are getting some outside/exercise.
I have 4 kids and NONE of my kids are over weight. They get their Fruity Pebbles, Cocoa Kripsies and Apple Jacks for breakfast, but it is not a huge bowl and they do go outside. It is MY job as their parent to monitor what goes into heir boys.
I can go sue or go after Coors for giving my husband a beer belly, it was his choice to drink.

I think that people blaming companies and large corporations just goes to show you that they don't want to take the blame on themselves for not taking better control of their kids and being their to make sure they are well taken care of.
If you give a child a box of cereal and say it is OK to have 2-3 bowls and let them play inside on a game console everyday then try to blame the cereal company, that is just sad.

The sad thing is most parents seem to take the easy way out these days-- grabbing the sugary cereal to stop the child from screaming for it or so they don't have to think about what to make for breakfast and sadly many adults don't truly understand nutrition. I actually used to work with a woman who once a week allowed her 13, 11 and 4 year old to crush up double stuff oreos and pour milk over it for breakfast and her 11 year-old ended up with a cholesterol and thyroid problem. Frankly, I understand both sides but I don't think that it will do any good.

I saw that too. Another example of people shifting blame so they don't have to be responsible. When I was growing up and wanted something that wasn't the healthiest option, my parents said NO. I don't think parents know how to say that word anymore. Kids are going to be drawn to cartoon characters, always have been. You are right, parents have to work to get the money, go to the store and buy it then put it in front of their child to eat it. How is that advertisers faults? Crazy little world we live in, huh?

I don't get it either. If the parents don't like the kids eating unhealthy cereal, then don't buy the unhealthy cereal. It's not that hard. Stop buying your fruity pebbles and coco puffs and buy cherrios or raisin bran. It's not like a 12 year old kid is going to go to the store by himself for cereal. .


Oh, and you should have put this in the pets section.....Joking.

Yes. People are just looking for somebody else to blame for their lack of self-control when it comes to eating and think that it's the marketing company's fault that they gain weight. It really irritates me. Everybody is subjected to the same advertisments yet not everybody eats this stuff and gains weight. It is the parent's responisilbity to teach their own children proper nutrtion and healthy eating.
