I had an ingrown toe nail that was pretty infected before I went to my doctor to have it removed. My dog insisted on licking it whenever it got the chance. It would gross me out and I had to always have bandages and socks on until it was totally healed.

Dog saliva actually has some healing properties, which is why they lick their own wounds. When a dog licks the wounds of a person he's actually trying to help the wounds heal. I don't think he could help an ingrown toenail though.

Dogs, including their wolf cousins in the wild, will lick their wounds to help speed up the process, prevent further infection, and because it probably FEELS good. You, being the owner and therefore "alpha male", are in a position where you have a wound. Your dog cares about you and wants you to be healthy and heal properly, so he does what he thinks helps HIM feel better and heal faster and will lick your wounds/infections. Don't think he is gross - he obviously loves you immensely and just wants you to feel better!

His salaiva has vitamins, minerals and curing elements that heal his or her wound that's why there wounds heal so fast, so what he or her is doing is perfectly normal, if you have a wound and your dog wants to lick it let him your wound will heal very fast, oh yeah and some dogs lick your feet to clean it or they just like licking your feet.
