My bro found my personal folder on the pc. It contains a few of my best friends pics, and my diaries which i had written. My diaries has all my personal data, like my crushes and my passwords etc. My bro says he deleted em accidentally while formatting the Hdisk. But i dont think so. I checked in his recent documents(when i logged onto his windows account) . All my files were there. But when I tried opening em. there was this msg that the files cannot be located. i followed the file path and tried unhiding all files but in vain. I also found a software in his folder named FOLDER LOCK. what does it do? can it hide files? But i am not asked for any password to access any folder. I want my files back. what do i do? I tried msconfig but I dont find folder lock in the system config utility under the startup tab.

The "recent documents" window displays paths to the most recent files opened....if that "path" doesn't exist anymore (deleted folder for instance) then windows will give you the error message saying the files cannot be located. Folder lock is an encryption program, unfortunately if your bro used it to hide your files, you'd probably need his password to get them back. You might try running a linux live cd like knoppix to access the folders you seek. Hope that helps!

The icons that you see in the 'recent documents' folder are merely links to data that have been recently opened. This means that your brother read your data, but in your case, the links no longer work because the data has been moved or deleted. If you right-click the links and click on 'Properties', then you can see which folder the links go to.
Truthfully, I don't see why he would have deliberately deleted your data, or why he would keep the data away from you. His actions don't make any sense, since he's smart enough to know how to view your data whenever he wishes.
I don't know what this 'Folder Lock' thing is.

I think that you should just go out and buy a USB Flash drive. They aren't expensive and they are easy to use; You just plug them into your USB port, and the computer treats them like an external hard drive. It is the best way to keep your private data away from your brother.
