I mean show like Cops on Camera, Traffic Cops etc.

I suppose I mean:

The attitudes police display on the show (some come across very arrogant and slightly bent).

Like what was said, they give an incredible amount of information out for people re: police process etc.

Law enforcement has no control over the media that produces the "cop shows" however they do provide the material in an effort to show what they have to deal with.

The viewer gets to observe from a camera point of view 30 minutes of what we're involved in yet the officers have 71/2 hours additional shift you don't see.

Considering what I've seen on most shows...I see no "attitude" or "arrogance" other than insuring they maintain control over a potential volatile event.

What amazes me however is when you see the hostilities of some violators yet the officers continue to maintain a courteous and professional demeanor despite the insults, anger, hatred, and ignorance they often times have to deal with. I can't even remember the number of times where the violator has screamed and hollared like a two year old child whose had their ice cream taken away simply because THEY did something wrong...not the officer. So why is it always the officer that is displaying this "arrogance" you mention?

Granted, as in EVERY walk of life or profession, there are good and bad but with over 800,000 sworn officers in the United States...I think they do a pretty good job...considering what they have to go through!

Best wishes.

As a law enforcement officer myself, I don't mind the shows. I think it's a great tool for us to show the public what we really deal with day after day. Now, realize that what you are watching is real but also the officers' know there is a camera on them, so the police officers may be acting a little tougher or arrogant that normal. And the producers of the show want the 'juiciest' items for the show. It's not always police chases and fighting suspects. But you will never know until you walk the shoes of a police officer what really goes on in their mind. Also, a show edits ALOT of what really happens. Yes, it's reality television but you don't see what an officer deals with when after that police chase ends, the victims that they have to deal with. People/children hurt and killed as a result. Yes, there are some arrogant cops out there but that doesn't make them bad. And yes, there are some bad cops out there as well. There is a lot of stress that is placed on police officers' shoulders but we are human, not superhuman. We have feelings and emotions as well and have to make split second decisions at times that could be life or death for all involved. If you really want to know what it is like, go to your local police department and request a ride-along. Most, if not all agencies have ride-along programs in place. They would be most happy to take you on a ride along for a shift. See for yourself in person, not Hollywood.

It makes me admire and appreciate them more because of the scum buckets they have to deal with day in and day out.

Maybe you need to go to your local PD and ask about doing a "Ride-A-Long" a few times so you can see things first hand. You might learn to appreciate them and what they have to go through all the time to protect you and others. You can choose to watch the show, change channels or turn the TV off. They can't do that with their job.

What is sad is people are becoming more disrespectful and more disruptive as time goes on. Today they not only have to deal with adults who are drunk but they have to deal with the thousands upon thousands of teens who are now drinking to excess (putting it very mildly) and using drugs and causing even more trouble. At one time the parents knew how to discipline their children but it's evident they don't anymore.

Then the officers have to deal with their parents who come crying and whining about their angelic child who would never do anything wrong and hearing "they weren't hurting anyone". The fact they were breaking the law seems to be a moot point to the air-head parents. The parents are teaching their children to be weak and leeches on society because they don't have to take responsibility for their actions.

Go for the Ride-A-Long ~ you need your eyes opened to the dangers of their job. What you see on TV is just a tip of the iceberg.

For me, watching shows like Cops, et al, just illustrates the type of idiots police have to deal with on a regular basis.

Most criminals aren't smart, and they show this time and again while being filmed.

If you had to deal with some of the idiots these guys deal with you would have an attitude too.

Kudos to our men and women in blue!!!

Think about something.....they can't be giving away to much info in these shows or they wouldn't be able to produce them because the crooks would be to smart to get caught. There is no such thing as a smart criminal......it is somewhat of an oxymoron. Clever maybe....smart? No way

Too late! The way so many municipal cops treat the public like crap has already caused them to be disliked! They dont need any TV shows for that.

They don't really care. They just want to do their job without getting second guessed all day. They know it's easy to sit home and say "why did they do that?" from the safety of your couch, but quite another to make an instant decision when lives (yours or others) are in jeopardy. As the first answerer said they don't do the job to be liked, but they do deserve to be respected.

The Police have been doing live shows for almost 30 years and people still like them. They've sold out two shows this summer at Wrigley Field. If you don't like it, tell Sting.

i have never heard a negative comment from a NORMAL law abiding citizen in reference to something they have seen on a police reality show. if some dirt sack already has pre-conceived notions about the police, then iam sure they could use their little narrow minds to find a reason to solidify their opinions from watching some show. but who really cares ?....i know i don't.

I like them and the shows make me like them more. People who break the law and get caught are usually the ones who dont like police.
