I believe it would have been better to talk to her first about the attitude that she had been showing and responding you and let her know that you didn't like it to be treated that way. You could have started an open communication with her then perhaps you could have helped her what had been bothering her that caused her to respond and act that way. Calm down. It's her attitude so don't repond back with the same attitude. Who knows, she just needed a help and maybe you could even help her. You be friends....... good luck !

Absolutely I do. My first response to someone who is being rude (especially if they're in a customer service type industry) is tell them that I don't appreciate their behavior/language or both and I ask them to stop.
If it persists, then not only do I tell them to stop, I request a supervisor and follow up with a letter of complaint.
The 3rd time (if it gets that far) I usually respond with violence. Nothing gets a person's attention better than a smack or punch in the mouth.

You shouldn't feel guilty at all. It's like dealing with people at the DMV; they shouldn't be working with people if they have a bad attitude. Tell anyone who is rude to you that they are being rude. They'll be extra nice because they don't want to be reported.

I usually would let that person make a fool out of himself.
If you have a problem with customer service at a utility company, contact the manager of the customer service department.

I think that was right thing to do and it was unfair for you to get the feel of guilt since you are first being provoked by her attitude. for sure it makes her realize that her attitude are not so friendly after all.

I would ask to speak to a supervisor and share your complaint. Another option would be adding a letter to your next payment (If you mail it) or emailing the costumer service department.

You are human and you got snippy. She wasn't being her best and it carried over to you. Reflect on it to improve your skills and move on. If you feel it is appropriate apologize to her. But don't let it bother you because you will make more mistakes and learn from them too. We all do.

Yes but in an objective way . Anger is an uncntrolled response, assertive is much better and sometimes pasive is the better way. Good luck with it...

In your situation, I would have asked for a supervisor immediately. Don't feel guilty about your reaction... if she was a snot, she deserved what she got from you.
