I eat cheerios for breakfast (and as a snack) but what are other good cereals out there?

I am not sure if Special K vanilla almonds count but I do like to eat that when my sweet teeth kicks in.

When I buy cereal I look for the following ingredients-- Whole wheat (or grain) corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated (in full or part) oils. If they have whole wheat (or grains) as the first ingrident, it's good. If they contain any of the other ingredients, it stays on the shelf. I recently got a box of Kroger brand raisin bran and read the ingredients after I got home. High fructose corn syrup. ICK. At least the cereal was free, but I still feel as though I should write.

I also wrote Kellogg's once and complained about the Smart Start. It has several listings of corn syrup, HFCS and partially hydrogenated oils. I basically asked them how they can claim to be heart healthy if they have that junk in them. I don't think I ever recieved a reply. (If their claim of whole oats and high potassium is true, then I would be better off with old-fashioned oats and a banana for breakfast and a glass of soy milk.)

I'm leery about Rice Krispies and Special K. The ingredients list just says rice, brown or white? Likely white. However, I would get them if they were on sale and I had a coupon (I don't like to pay more than $2 for a box of cereal; With sales and double coupons and store brands, it's doable) and mix them with something else, like Kashi or Cheerios.

Cheerios is good. Yes, they have sugar in them, but it's just listed as sugar. I also buy Apple Cinnamon and Honey Nut on occasion, too. I grew up on Cheerios and the occasional box of Apple Cinnamon and Honey Nut (if they were on sale and my mom had a coupon).

Life is good, as it's just whole oats, cinnamon and sugar. That is one that I got as a child too, not as often as Cheerios, but frequently.

I don't care too much for instant oatmeal. Too sugary and artifical for me. Besides, a canister of oats is cheaper and lasts longer. Besides, a little brown sugar and real maple syrup (not the maple flavored high fructose corn syrup, but the stuff that actually comes from trees) is much yummier.

On the other hand, two slices of sugar free whole wheat toast, some natural peanut butter (sans corn syrup and/or HFCS) and some natural fruit spread (fruit and fruit pectin, again, no high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, and none of the sugar free stuff that still sounds as though it has chemicals added) and a glass of chocolate or vanilla soy milk makes for a yummy breakfast. Fruit's always good with it, too, but I save it for a mid-morning snack as I'm usually done with breakfast by eight and I get hungry again by 10 or 11. (I don't think it's that my cereal doesn't have "staying power", but that I'm pregnant, so I metabolize food quicker.)

Anyway, I hope this helps.

I think rice crispies-they have several different varieties too to choose from and I would think all of the special K cereals would count as well. A lot also depends if you just eat cold cereals or hot cereals-for hot cereals the best is oatmeal.

special k works great it's sweet, and it's healthy, you can also eat south beach diet cereal, raisin grain. you can eat that type of stuff but don't eat coco puffs, cookie crisp, fruit loop, Reese puffs. and sugary stuff like that hope this helps.

Special K counts- they have one with strawberries which are really yummy. Also try Kashi and Total. They have a good amount of fiber and protein.
