Other than visiting a friend there, I don't know much about the town. How do I go about finding an apartment, finding about the cost of living, finding my way around town, finding what side of town is good to living in, finding jobs etc. I have personal reasons for moving there. I am scared of moving alone, but it is a neccesity. Any tips would be appreciated.

Here is a wonderful travel website for Toledo, Ohio. The people tend to be nice and the questions are answered by locals. I used this site daily when moving to Romania only I used the Romania section. It was a huge help in answering questions that are sometimes hard to come by the answers such as crime, and good schools. Good Luck

Inlist your friend to help you. Next time you are visiting her, check out the local real estate places for places to rent, also read the newspaper for the area they have listings too. Also start looking for a job. Put in job applications while you are there too.
Ask your friend to point out where grocery stores, shopping malls, and local hang out places are, as where as like a park or pool would be. Your friend can act as a guide. Ask your friend how much it costs him/her to live there in that town. Also ask the real estate places how the utilities in the places usually run. Make sure you find a job that will allow you to pay your bills, and buy food once you move there. Check out the prices at the local stores and see how "reasonable" they are.
Check out different nieghborhoods as well.
Stop by the local police station and check on crime rates, and other statistics they might be able to give you. Also stop by the local chamber of commerce and ask if they have a map or anything of the town, or a packet containing information about the town.
Good luck moving!

hey casey,
i think your trying to say u need to know how to move into a new town knowing all the stuff u need 2 know..
firstly talk to the council on that town find out rates prices and all that information also just randomly visit a real estate and ask about what side of town would be better and with least break ins ect..
most real estates lie so if you dont like the idea of that then prob just look around the area for graffeti and all that..
hope this helps..

Contact a local real estate firm, they should be able to help you find accommodation. Visit a tourist bureau, you may be able to get local maps, town layout etc. Look upon the move as an adventure, be positive. Go get a job, if you can/want to, that's where you'll meet your first group of friends. Good luck.

I think the best route you could take is to ask a Real Estate agent. They know about rental property, too, not just what is for sale. They can point you in the right direction as far as what is the nice area of town, as well. As far as learning your way around...most people I know, just drive it, try and get lost, and then find their way back...I just use mapquest! Good Luck.

Contact the Chamber of Commerce, by Internet or other means. They can send you maps, brochures, lists of apartments, locations of schools, and other information. You can also check out the classified ads and the yellow pages to get you going.
