Check out the Onkyo tx-sr605 and 805. They are equipped aith HDMI 1.3, andcan decode new uncompressed HD signals. I think if you are buying a new reciever today, it is a shame if it is not suitable for new technology which is already here - HD and BLU-RAY.

Hi there david.I am not sure what is going on with your current Receiver. It could be faulty or may not be connected to the other TV correctly. These new ones should not give you any trouble .According to most audio video enthusiasts on Answers Sony does not perform as well as the other brands in the sound dept. I can't verify that as i haven't listened to a Sony Receiver. Here is a list of Receivers that support HDMI connections :I don't know how much you are prepared to spend on a new Receiver but the ones below are only examples .They have various models all with HDMI These are at the lower price range..

ONKYO TX-SR604 7.1 ($350-$400)
YAMAHA RX-V2700 7.1($979)
DENON AVR-Z2807 7.1 ($769)
HARMAN AVR645 7.1 ($600)
MARANTZ SR800 6.1 ($1,300)

Here are the specifications for the above Receivers
